  1. So she gets a video instead of a poster like the others? Hope she still gets a poster but doubt it.

Also, stop showing the Mayward fight! It was gross on both ends (both May and Ward went too far, and I don't like that she took away an abuse victim's voice) and no one likes seeing that.

  2. i didn't see the fight that way whoa deep way of putting it, i should've thought about that man i really thought about it, i hate seeing the fight because the people were supposed to be a family fighting external enemies and threats, not fighting amongst themselves, but great way of putting it, now i'm seeing it in a whole different way

  3. Glad I was able to help someone see it differently!

  4. May all Day :) Can't wait for Ming-Na to be back on my TV screen

  5. Abuse victim or no, Ward was guilty of some pretty despicable things and you can't just write that off. The man shot police officers, murdered SHIELD agents, etc. A traumatic childhood only accounts for so much. It may make his actions understandable, but it doesn't absolve him of them. May did what she had to do to stop him. He didn't give her a lot of choice IMO.

  6. It wasn't just a traumatic childhood because Garrett literally kidnapped him at sixteen (Ward may have agreed but he was a minor and therefore couldn't consent) and then continued to physically and emotionally abuse him until the day he died. I'm not writing off anything - of course he should pay for his crimes in jail but Ward also needs a shitload of therapy.

And I still think both went too far in that fight.

  7. Oh, Ward got dealt a shit hand in life, no question about it. The guy never had a chance. But at some point, no matter what your circumstances are, you become responsible for your own choices, and Ward made some piss poor choices that he has to pay for now (dropping Fitz and Simmons out of a plane for starters). That's all I'm saying.

And Ward was technically the villain in the fight, so I understood him going to extremes. But once he'd tried to cut May open with the circular saw, I found the nail gun pretty reasonable. That's just me, though. I maintain that May only did what he forced her to do to end the fight.

  8. If FitzSimmons had stayed on that plane, Garrett or another Hydra agent would have killed them for sure. And the pod was supposed to float but didn't (Fitz himself mentions that) so it was their best chance.

And May actually tried to kill him with a saw first (I've watched that scene a few times, unfortunately) but it still doesn't excuse him trying to kill her with one a few seconds later. LOL.

  9. Okay, I'll give you the saw thing. But that doesn't mean that Ward didn't go down there with the intent to kill Fitz and Simmons. The fact that they wound up in a pod that was supposed to float was pure happenstance. There was every possibility that they could have been killed on impact when Ward tossed them out and I'm pretty sure he knew that.

Now, if we get a scene when the new season starts next week where Ward admits that he thought the pod would float and that he thought he was giving them a chance to survive, that might be something, but again, I don't believe that was the case.

On a separate note, I'm really glad we're seeing this promotional stuff for the other cast members before Skye. It seemed like they were pushing Skye awfully hard last season -- sometimes at the expense of other characters that seemed to endear themselves to the audience a lot faster -- and it got on my nerves at times. I'm hoping things will be a bit different this time around.

  10. Aw, I love every single character - including Skye - but all this promotional stuff is nice. I'm fully expecting her and Coulson soon.

  11. I'm not bashing Skye or anything. She grew on me a lot over the course of season one. But it did seem as if the producers were dead set on making her the "central ass-kicking heroine" character that Whedon puts into all of his shows, and I just felt like it was an awkward fit with Skye for a while. Like just about everything else on the show, this improved a great deal in the latter half of the season.

  12. Yup, "Turn, Turn, Turn" was the point I went from really liking the show to obsessing over it. LOL oops. I'm looking forward to that momentum continuing this season.

Awesome XD Then again, 'awesome' is practically Ming-Na's middle name.

  14. I agree with everything you've said.

The theory that Ward was trying to at least give FitzSimmons a chance to survive has a couple of problems:
    1. He's the one who captured them and brought them to the plane in the first place! He could've just turned a blind eye to their presence.
    2. As you say, even if the pod was supposed to float, the impact with the water could've killed them - they were surprised by their own survival. Unless Ward knew that the plane was flying at such low altitude that the impact wouldn't kill them.

And in general, I think we have to realize that cutting Ward slack on what he did would lead into a very dangerous slippery slope if this was real life. It isn't, and I can accept people therefore viewing things differently... but once you say that a horrible past can absolve you of heinous crimes, there are so many murderers, rapists, abusers, child molesters and whatnot that technically deserve to walk free.

  15. Round of applause for this comment. Especially this: " if it weren't for SkyeWard, how many people would be defending Ward?". Maybe after I've seen my share of mass murderer, rapist, evil male characters get a free pass once people started shipping them with the heroine (hello Spike, Damon, Klaus!), I have a hard time believing it's the character that appeals to them and not the pretty eyes, abs and snarky lines...

  16. Pretty nice recap of May's badassery in Season 1! And that clip of her shooting a gun while riding a motorcycle is new, and cool.

  17. Screw the Cavalry: May's the Queen!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. She is, but Cavalry is kind of a cooler name :)

Also, I would love it if later in the series, May has a badass entrance moment and she says "I'm the Cavalry", to show that she's adopted that moniker as part of coming to terms with her past.

  19. Hahahaha That'd be fantastic! I also agree the Cavalry is a way cooler name. I just meant she rules.

  20. No argument there :)

  21. That's what I'm saying. Ward may be a tragic character in that he didn't really have a choice in becoming what he is, but that doesn't make his actions excusable. You do the crime, you do the time.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think Ward will evolve into a better person but by the end of season 1 he was downright evil. I saw the May fight in a different light. I look at all the people Ward killed with little to no remorse. Hand, other shield agents, bystanders, etc. By the time the May fight had started it was life or death. With the small compassion he showed his other kills I doubt he was going to have any mercy on May.

May stopped the threat without killing him which is much more than can be said for Ward. Yes he was abused emotionally by Garrett since childhood but that doesn't justify his action without him showing some remorse. I'm hoping the connections he built with the team can help repair the emotional abuse from Garret but with his mindset if he was swapped placed with May she would be dead, not mute, or toe-nail-gunned. Dead-dead. I think this speaks to Mays character in a positive light more than Wards.

  23. Wonder why May got the special treatment in getting a video? Instead of a poster! Just hope she will not be as cold and distant last season though she was a bit warming up in the end of the last season.
