Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 - Elizabeth Henstridge, Clark Gregg, and Chloe Bennet interview

"There was a lot more layers to HYDRA than Alexander Pierce [in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'] and John Garrett [on 'SHIELD']," Gregg says. "I never got the feeling that the entity that was HYDRA, if they'd been able to keep themselves submerged like a virus within SHIELD for 50 years, that anything that went on at the end of 'Winter Soldier' or the end of our show had annihilated them. I think it's a reasonable likelihood that they have a lot more nasty to bring to us than we've seen so far."

Henstridge says that the question of whether people are HYDRA or allies of SHIELD is built into the DNA of Season 2's premiere.

"Because of where our team is now, being the headquarters of the organization, we're going to get a lot more people coming in and out and sort of recurring throughout the season rather than 'this is an episode about this person' and then we never see them again," she says. "We're trying to gain ground against HYDRA and it's not easy, and we don't necessarily have all the resources that we did before because we don't have the same infrastructure because it was destroyed."

But Bennet cautions that this season isn't just going to be a takedown of the remaining HYDRA members.

"They will definitely have a big presence. I wouldn't necessarily say 'HYDRA vs. SHIELD,' but HYDRA will still have a big part of the story lines on the show," Bennet says. "I don't think it's necessarily the main issue, but it's there for sure."

  1. The Hydra story gave them a lot of momentum that I definitely think will continue next season.
