The Bridge - Eye of the Deep - Advance Preview

Previously on The Bridge: Frye and Adrianna's investigation leads to the suicide of Papa Smurf, Monte comes bearing gifts for Ray and Charlotte, Linder refuses to accept injustice, and Marco & Sonya's investigation is going in circles while Marco's deal with the devil seems to be moving somewhere.

Marco:

The Marco that we watch today is a very different Marco than we saw for the majority of the first season. This Marco is vengeful and willing to work with people he despises most in order to get what he wants. Marco and Fausto Galvan share a scene early in this episode in which they discuss the value of revenge. As we know too well, however, Marco and Fausto Galvan are two very different people and while they may share common interests at a given time, it is in Fausto Galvan's best interests to keep Marco indebted to him. Whether that will be possible moving forward is yet to be seen.

Sonya:

At the end of the last episode, Sonya and Jack went into uncharted territory in terms of their sex lives. It was an extremely strange scene that transcends a strange fetish of sorts because of Sonya's background. In this episode, viewers can expect Jack to want to talk about it, but Sonya is not quite as willing. There are a lot of scenes with Sonya and Jack in this episode so if anyone enjoys their "romance", this is definitely the episode for you, although I'm not sure I would call their scenes together romantic.

DEA Agents:

The introduction of the new DEA agents this year has really changed the dynamic of the show. Their investigation is finally starting to uncover some mysteries, but they receive a visit from a CIA agent who we have surprisingly seen before. This section of the episode is extremely hard to tease, because after watching the entire episode I'm still not entirely sure of the CIA agent's motives, but I suspect that this CIA agent will allow for multiple (if not all) of The Bridge's story lines to converge at some point in the not too distant future.

Jack Dobbs:

It's been very obvious from day one that there is something more to Jack Dobbs than meets the eye. When Marco and Hank put up with Sonya's idiosyncrasies, they clearly do it out of a form of love, but with Jack I'm not entirely sure what motivates him to put up with Sonya. Every episode Sonya does something strange that forces a "What the hell?" look from him, but he (for some reason) sets it aside. Furthermore, when Jack stole the drawing in the last episode, I couldn't understand his motivation. Was he stealing it to cover something up that HE did? Or is he trying to investigate something else that his brother did? Viewers can expect a little more of answer to this question in this episode.

Linder:

In this episode, Linder meets the new prosecutor character. While Prosecutor Pintado attempts to persuade Eva to testify against her attackers, Linder isn't quite as convinced as the others in the room. As we saw in the last episode, Steven Linder is more interested in his own personal type of vengeance because of the risks to Eva involved in going through the official channels. However odd Linder is, he is certainly not ignorant and as is evidenced later in the episode his fears are not unfounded.

Frye & Adriana:

Frye and Adriana don't appear until about halfway through this episode, but their story line is filled with developments. Not only do we find out who supplied Frye with the first piece of information that led to all of this season's developments, but we also gain a new point of intersection for story lines that has a potential to recur. The great thing about all of these stories converging is that instead of 5 minutes for a supporting character we have 15 minutes for a supporting character that is involved with a main character.

Eleanor:

Eleanor Nacht continues to solidify herself as the weirdest and coolest character on television. Only on this show, would I actually fear for a cat's life when she is in the same room. Because of the unusually split cast, the writers were unable to fit a lot of time for her character in this episode, but the small amount that we do see of her is great.

This week I have finally been able to fit in time for both a preview and a review rather than just lumping them together as I have done all season. This is why readers will notice that I have very few critical elements to this review and no rating. This also means that you readers will have more articles from me about The Bridge. I hope that's good news to all.

Tune in to The Bridge on Wednesdays @ 10/9c on FX. Be sure to come back here to SpoilerTV to let everyone else know what you thought of the episode. Also, if you're a fan of anything The Bridge, keep an eye out for Brandon Rowe's set tour and interview posts which should be coming around in the next few weeks.
