Scene Of The Week - August 31, 2014 - POLL

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently on TV.

DOCTOR WHO, "Into the Dalek", 30 August 2014, Actors: Samuel Anderson, Jenna Coleman and more, The Scene: Meeting Danny Pink
Justyna Kubica:
I could have picked a more emotional or a more intense moment of the episode, like any of the Doctor's conversation with the Dalek, especially "YOU are a good Dalek" part, but in the end, I figured that if a few minutes of an introduction scene for a show's new character can make me already feel invested in his story, it's surely a scene worth mentioning here. It's hard to adjust to so many changes on the show like Doctor Who, where not only the companions but also the Doctor keeps changing both his look and personality. But somehow, I think I'm already loving Danny Pink. A charming, quite awkward man with a dark past and a great potential seems like such an interesting character. And who knows, maybe he's just what I've been missing on the show lately. Welcome to the Who-Universe, Samuel Anderson! Can't wait to see more of you after the great first impression.
Sandi wich: Meeting Danny Pink. I wasn't that keen on the episode really, the Dalek ones rarely grab my interest, but I did immediately love the Danny's character. Samuel Anderson conveyed his troubled past very effectively, he's going to be a tough but loveable guy I feel and I can't wait to see him in action.

EXTANT, "A Pack of Cards", August 27, 2014, Actors: Brad Beyer, Halle Berry
The Scene: Harmon Kryger dies
Tonya Papanikolas:
This scene was really interesting in how it affected Molly. She has trusted Harmon up until recently when he tried to kill her baby. But as he died and talked about how Molly had to be the one to stop the baby, you can see her wheels turning. She is attached to the baby but maybe Harmon is right. Maybe the baby isn't good. Nobody knows its intentions. Molly is distraught, not knowing what is real and whom she can trust. Overall Harmon was generally trustworthy so should she trust him this time? She has the motherly feeling of wanting to protect her baby, but you can tell in the scene that she is also starting to feel that something is wrong. It will be interesting to see where it leads.

MISTRESSES, "Surprise", August 25, 2014, Actors: Rochelle Aytes, Dondre Whitfield
The Scene: April tells Paul the police is after him
Samy Bgs:
April (Rochelle Aytes) decides she doesn't want to help the police and tells Paul (Dondre Whitfield) that they're after him.

MYSTERY GIRLS, "The Killer Returns", August 27, 2014, Actors: Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth and more
The Scene: Charlie and Holly beat the murderer
Samy Bgs:
The Girls (Jennie Garth + Tori Spelling) beat the murderer hollow without him seeing it coming. I think it really was the last episode of the series so I really tried to enjoy it and I did.

RAY DONOVAN, "Walk This Way", August 24, 2014, Actors: Liev Schreiber, Devon Bagby
The Scene: Final Scene
Darth Locke:
Ray comes back in the house and dances with Conor to a modern renditions of "Walk This Way". This was my favorite episode of the season so far and was it any wonder that it was also directed by Liev Schreiber!? It was one of those ridiculously hilarious episodes where the Donovan family's dysfunction is on manic display and where the series plays with some fun temporal effects. In this case, Ray's drunkenness...

TEEN WOLF, "Monstrous", August 24, 2014, Actors: Ian Bohen, Maya Eshet and more, The Scene: Meredith's memory about Peter
Justyna Kubica:
Just when you think things can't possibly get any crazier you learn that the entire Benefactor idea came from a comatose Peter. I had a feeling he has to be involved in all the killing but I never thought about something like that. And it's more than just a simple idea, all the details of the plan (The Chemist, Mute, the Deadpool, etc.) were exactly like Peter imagined years ago, lying in a coma. And it seems like Meredith, listening to his vengeful thoughts for months, decided to make his idea real after Allison's death, feeling like the monsters in Beacon Hills have caused enough pain already. The truth is revealed in a great scene where Peter searches for answers in Meredith's mind and Lydia (who can hear everything) tells Sheriff and Parrish (and the viewers of course) the entire story. Really powerful performance by Ian Bohen, a right setting and the mystery being solved aspect make this scene very memorable. This wasn't a way I thought this storyline is going to end, but it surely gave us a lot of great scenes. Another one being Lydia and Meredith's conversation at the end of the episode. "Not all monsters do monstrous things." Kudos!

THE BRIDGE, "Goliath", August 27, 2014, Actors: Diane Kruger, Demián Bichir, The Scene: Sonya confronts Marco about his conflict of interest
Tonya Papanikolas:
This scene was sad and impactful to see how Sonya has lost her trust in Marco. She suspects he has connections to Fausto Galvan and that Marco allowed Fausto to kill David Tate for him. For her, that is extremely important. It was sad to see her say that Marco was compromised and she doesn't trust him any more. Of course, he is compromised. But their strong partnership has been such a positive thing for each of them. This scene, however, just emphasized how different they are. Marco lives in a complicated world of grey and Sonya is simply black and white. Knowing that, I don't know how they are going to come out of this and regain that trust. It's sad that their relationship has come to this and they can't trust each other, especially after Sonya no longer trusts Hank, either - or Jack. Now she has no one to trust. It's possible this scene and episode may mark the beginning of a permanent change between Sonya and Marco.

THE LEFTOVERS, "The Garveys at Their Best", August 24, 2014, Actors: Justin Theroux and more
The Scenes: Kevin sits on the curb & Final scene
Geo N:
The scene where Kevin is sitting on the curb and a mysterious woman drives up and asks, "Are you ready?" to a bewildered Kevin. After they drive off, the manhole cover in the street rattles then explodes into the sky with flames erupting from the recently uncovered manhole.
Francesco B: The final minutes with the departure of people. So emotional.

THE STRAIN, "For Services Rendered", August 24, 2014, Actors: Jim Watson and more, The Scenes: Setrakian in the concentration camp with Eichorst & Weird men in black kill the vampires and save the kids
Geo N:
The scene from 1944 Poland with Setrakian in the concentration camp with Eichorst. The exact scene had a drunk Eichorst entering Setrakian's carving area where he prattles on about the Third Reich that ended with him asking Setrakian to shoot him if he can reach for his gun first, but Setrakian stoically resists.
Tonya Papanikolas: Weird creepy death-looking men in black kill the vampires and save the kids, then kill the injured daughter. This scene was intriguing because you have no idea who these men are. They came out of nowhere and knew exactly where the vampires were and what to do. They obviously want to get rid of them so in that sense they seem good. But they also look evil - just like death. So right now you don't know whether they are good or bad. It made me want to know more.

WITCHES OF EAST END, "Art of Darkness", August 24, 2014, Actor: James Marsters
The Scene: Tarkoff makes his appearance (picked by Francesco B)

YOUNG AND HUNGRY, "Young & Thirty (...and getting married!)", August 27, 2014, Actor: Jonathan Sadowski, The Scene: Josh realizes that he loves Gabi
Samy Bgs:
Josh (Jonathan Sadowski) realizes that he loves Gabi and rushes to her apartament. I loved that scene but the scene that followed it was heartbreaking.
