Scene Of The Week - August 3, 2014 - POLL

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently on TV.

DOMINION, "Ouroburos", July 31, 2014, Actors: Christopher Egan, Tom Wisdom, Carl Beukes
The Scene: The confrontation between Alex, Michael and Gabriel
JK:
To be honest, I wasn't quite sure which scene from the episode I should pick, but in the end, I decided to choose the moment when Michael, Alex and (technically) Gabriel finally have a chance to interact all together. It was a part when the actors had a chance to shine and the lines for their characters got quite blurry. The trust Alex previously had in Michael was tested when the secrets of his past came to light. I'm sure it's meant to confuse both the show's main hero and the viewers, but despite the role reversal between the two brothers, it doesn't change everything we've seen them doing in all the episodes before. So, hopefully, those things won't be forgotten... Also, the scene takes place right after we discover Noma's secret, which obviously has an emotional impact on Alex and his connection with Michael. The finale is almost here so fingers crossed the show will return for second season. Kudos!

EXTANT, "Shelter", July 30, 2013, Actors: Halle Berry, Pierce Gagnon and more, The Scenes: The ending scene & Ethan deliberately loses the "ring" game
Tonya Papanikolas:
Scientist team begins cutting into Molly's stomach as she is sedated. The ending scene made me think, "Really? They're just going to cut open her stomach (with a high-tech laser) and just take out whatever is in there?" But I like that new things are happening every week - there is no status quo. The show is plowing full steam ahead and this scene propelled us forward very quickly into finding out more information about the baby. It left me eager for next week.
Sharon Seymour: Ethan deliberately losing the "ring" game.

MASTERS OF SEX, "Fight", July 27, 2014, Actors: Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan
The Scene: Bill tries to "teach" Virginia how to box
Michael Pantoustier:
Honestly, it's not easy to pick one scene, especially because it was a bottle episode, but I'd say the scene when Bill tries to "teach" Virginia how to box.

RECKLESS, "Bloodstone", July 27, 2014, Actors: Anna Wood and more, The Scene: Jamie tells her brother who she really is
Tonya Papanikolas:
Even though it didn't make sense to me why she withheld this information from him for two years, it was an emotional moment when she finally tells him and he doesn't react how she expected. Instead of being happy and excited that he has someone in his life who cares about him, he gets mad that she kept it from him all this time, leaving Jamie stunned and guilt-ridden. The scene packed an emotional punch.

TEEN WOLF, "Orphaned", July 28, 2014, Actors: Dylan O'Brien, Holland Roden, The Scene: The last key is revealed
JK:
First of all, I always enjoy seeing Stiles and Lydia teaming up and figuring things out together, which is why their scenes are often my favorites in the episode. Like this week. The last key, which happens to be Derek's name turns out to be Lydia's tragic prediction of his upcoming death and not just a way to reveal the last part of the list. It's what makes this scene probably the most significant part of the episode. Not to mention the fact that Malia (under her family's name!) and Meredith happen to be on the list. And it brings us the very sad news of Meredith's death and an emotional moment for Stiles and Lydia. It's this meaning, as much as the actors' performances that really makes this scene so special from my perspective. Next episode looks like it's gonna be a very important, though potentially tragic, one. Which makes the waiting even harder. Kudos to the cast and crew for all their work on the show!

THE FOSTERS, "The Longest Day", July 28, 2014, Actors: David Lambert, Danny Nucci
The Scene: Mike and Brandon talk about Dani
Michael Pantoustier:
When Mike explains to Brandon that it was Dani in the wrong, not him. She raped him.

THE LEFTOVERS, "Gladys", July 27, 2014, Actors: Marceline Hugot and more
The Scene: Gladys is brutally stoned to death
DarkUFO:
One of the most brutal scenes I've seen on TV. Also picked by Sharon Seymour and Michael Pantoustier

THE STRAIN, "Gone Smooth", July 27, 2014, Actors: Jonathan Potts, Jack Kesy, The Scenes: Captain Doyle attacks the team in the hospital basement & "He's here" & Bolivar loses his penis
Tonya Papanikolas:
The team finds Captain Doyle in the hospital basement and he attacks them. From the way the captain looked, pale as a ghost drinking blood, to his crazy attacking tongue to the way he came back after they knocked him out, the scene was intriguing. Though it was completely disgusting to see Eph repeatedly bash his head in, and then the skull just smashed on the ground, I was also amused with the tone. It was gross but also kind of funny in the same way you might admire the weird grossness of The Walking Dead. I surprised myself by thinking "Awesome" at the end of the scene.
Sharon Seymour: Captain Redfern in hospital saying "He's here".
DarkUFO: Bolivar loses his penis.
