SpoilerTV - TV Spoilers

Quote of the Week - Week of August 17

24 Aug 2014

A weekly feature highlighting the best quotes on TV as picked by the Spoiler TV team this past week. We'd love to hear your picks too so please sound off below the article.

Doctor Who -

1. The Doctor: "Have you seen this face before?" Barney: "No." The Doctor: "Are you sure?" Barney: "Sir, I have never seen that face." The Doctor: "It's funny, because, I'm sure that I have. You know I never know where they come from, the faces. They just pop up, zap, faces like this one. Come on look at it, have a look, come on, look, look, look." (He wanders over to where a broken mirror.) "Look, it's covered in lines, look at it - but I didn't do the frowning. Who frowned me this face? Do you ever look at yourself in the mirror and think, I've seen that face before?" (Sandi and Bradley Adams)

2. Eleventh Doctor: "However scared you are Clara, the man you are with right now, the man I hope you are with, believe me he is more scared than anything you can imagine right now, and he needs you." Twelfth Doctor: "So who is it?" Eleventh Doctor: "Is that the Doctor?" Twelfth Doctor: "Is that the Doctor?" Clara (To both of them): "Yes." Eleventh Doctor: "He sounds old. Please tell me I didn't get old? Anything but old! I was young. Oh, is he grey?" Clara: "Yes."
Eleventh Doctor: "Clara please. ‘ay, for me, help him? Go on, and don't be afraid, he's alright. Good-bye Clara. Miss ya." (Sandi)

3. The Doctor: "You can't see me, can you? You look at me, and you can't see me. Have you any idea what that's like? I'm not on the phone, I'm right here. Standing in front of you. Please, just…see me!" Clara (looks at him, searching his face for...something...then smiles): "Thank you." The Doctor: "For what?"
Clara: "Phoning." (She hugs him) The Doctor: "I, I, I'm not sure I'm a hugging person now." Clara: "I'm not sure you get a vote." (Sandi)

4. Strax: "And we will not melt him with acid." (Bradley Adams)

The Fosters -

1. Lena (to Mariana): "You only carry a baby in your belly for nine months, but you carry your child in your heart forever, that’s the only place that it counts. And you do come from me. And from mom. Giving birth to you, that wouldn’t have made me love you any more than I do."

The Leftovers -

1. Kevin: "So, you know where they went, what happened." Patti: "It doesn’t matter what happened." (Michael Pantoustier)

2. Patti: "She came to me because I could offer her something that you could not, purpose. That's all any of us wants, every single one of us. Not answers, not love, just a reason to exist, something to live for, something to die for." (Michael Pantoustier)

3. Patti: "I want you to commit. I want you to finish what you started. I want you to go all the way. I want you to say you understand." Kevin: "Understand what?" Patti: "What happened, what's happening, to me, to you. O vanity of sleep, hope, dream, endless desire, the horses of disaster plunge through the heavy clay: Beloved, let your eyes half close and your heart beat over my heart and your hair fall over my breast, drowning love's lonely hour in deep twilight of rest... And hiding their tossing manes and tumultuous feet. Kevin. Kevin. Kevin Garvey. You don't have to hide from me." (Michael Pantoustier)

4. Kevin: "No, Patti. No. I don't understand you." Patti: "Kevin. You do understand." Kevin: "Oh, Jesus! Oh, God! Oh! God! Oh! Oh, God! What the fuck did you do? What the fuck did you do?" Patti: "You... Understand." (Michael Pantoustier)

Masters of Sex -

1. Lillian (to Virginia): "I can't do this for you, I tried, but I'm done." (Michael Pantoustier)

2. Virginia (to Bill): "She’s my friend, and I don’t have a lot of those." (Michael Pantoustier)

3. Lillian: "He loves you." Virginia: "He never says it." Lillian: "But you know it, and that’s everything, isn’t it?" (Michael Pantoustier)

Mystery Girls -

1. (entering the detective’s office) Holly: "Freeze! You have the right to remain sexy." Charlie: "She’s been practicing that the whole way here." Detective: "Don’t you knock?" Holly: "But you never knock." Charlie: "Yeah, you just say 'knock knock,' which technically isn't knocking." Holly: "Whatcha working on?" Detective: "None of your business." Holly: "Oh, looking at porn, huh? So what's your kink? Footplay, nurses?" Charlie: "Tennessee dumpling?" Holly: "Tennessee dumpling?" Charlie: "Yeah, you start with a washboard and a jug…" Holly: "Oh..." (Samy Bgs)

The Strain -

1. Gus' friend: "Where are we, man?" Gus: "One story above hell." (Tonya Papanikolas)

2. Setrakian: "You want to help fix this? You want to help me stop all of this?" Cab driver: "You can't fix crazy, man!" (Tonya Papanikolas)

Teen Wolf -

1. DoucheOrderly: "But they weren't murders. I am not some serial killer like Ted Bundy, going around cutting up college girls." Stiles: "Nah, you're just an angel of death." DoucheOrderly: "I don't think you understand my level of commitment to my work here, Stiles." (Dahne)  ~I am surprsied by how much DoucheOrderly captured my attention in this episode, considering how much I hate him.  Great work all around in this scene.

2. Mason: "I'm not asking because I want to know. I'm asking because I want to help." (Dahne)  ~I really want to not like Mason since he basically replaced Danny, btu he keeps saying things like this.

3. Scott: "What happened to the gun?" Derek: "You're covered in gasoline." Scott: "Oh yeah."  (Dahne)  ~The return of SmartDerek.  Oh yeah!  Please stay.

4. Stiles: "Lydia, look at me. Don't listen. Okay, don't listen to it. Just focus on my voice alright? You don't listen to it. Block it out, okay? Lydia. Hey, turn it off." (DoucheOrderly punches him.)  ~I love the friendship between Stiles and Lydia.  They are great working together to solve mysteries, but even better when they are protecting each other.

Young & Hungry -  The best part of the episode was Sofia impersonating Yolanda but that didn't translate through the quotes alone so I went with these.

1. Yolanda: "I think if I let him go, I'm not going to be the main woman in his life anymore and he's going to run off into the sunset with some new girl on that tandem bike." Josh: "Come here. He's not going anywhere….you pay all of his bills." (Dahne)  ~Awww, it's hard for a mom to let go and let her child grow up.  It's even harder to get them to pay their own bills.

2. Gabby: "Are you okay that I manipulated you into calling Cheryl? I had to. It's true love." Yolanda: "I know but it doesn't mean that I don't love you. I would be lucky to have someone like you in my family." Gabby: "You already do." (Dahne)  ~It's this family dynamic that makes Young & Hungry my favorite summer comedy.

  1. Spent this week catching up on Arrow and starting Supernatural season 9 so I only watched to new shows. What were your favorite shows this week?

  2. I like the Young and Hungry quotes mentioned as well.

I'm kind of anxious for fall shows to start now with Dominion and Chasing Life having ended for the summer. TV is boring me slightly.

I'm checking out Teen Wolf tonight though. You've convinced me Dahne.

  3. I see you decided to catch up with Arrow and watch season 9 of SPN. Will definitely be interested to see what you think about it. Since I stopped watching somewhere in the middle of s9, I have yet to catch up with the second half but I haven't decided when/if I'm going to do that. Though I do miss the boys, so much, that it might just make me do it eventually.

  4. The Leftovers always has some great ones but I can never remember them lol

  5. Lilith convinced me to do an episode of Arrow Cast with her again even though I had dropped the show after Malcolm Merlyn came back. I decided it behooved me to finish the season so I could tak more eloquently on why I dropped it and what would make me come back. After I finished, it just seemed right to stop putting off Supernatural. I've watched up to Bad Boys and I have to say that episode felt so much like classix seasons 1-3 SPN that it might be my favorite episode in 2 seasons. I wasn't a fan of teh 4 episodes before it, but nothing so far has been as soul-crushingly hideous as all of season 8. I completely understand missing the boys. I did too. The problem was in season 8 even when I was watching SPN, I still didn't feel like I was watching the boys and that was way too hard to take. Hoping it doesn't get to that point in season 9 but we have some major brother drama coming up that will try my patience but good. Why do the writers always go to the contrived drama of brothers keeping secrets? It's boring.

  6. I am so glad you are giving it a try. The pilot is awesome in its speed but season 1 is a bit of a seesaw with more high school drama than all of the other seasons combined. Still there was enough action and a swiftly moving plot so even my notoriously anti-emoangsting heart was fully engaged in the plot. They are also good at not dragging out questions for years, which helps for me tremendously. Let me know what you think.

  7. Michael just added some Leftovers quotes, so maybe those will jog your memory. :-)

  8. Yeah, I don't get it either. Why do they always put them against each other? It's boring and pointless. Just the drama for the drama.
Also, yeah, I actually watched Bad Boys and it was my favorite from all the ones I've seen from S9. Well, I probably will catch up with the rest at one point.

  9. Doctor Who, The Doctor '"You can't see me, can you? You look at me, and you can't see me. Have you any idea what that's like? I'm not on the phone, I'm right here. Standing in front of you. Please, just…see me" Loved that it was really heartbreaking

Rectify, Daniel Holden "It’s the beauty that hurts the most, not the ugly"

Oh and every messed up thing out of Patti's mouth in The Leftovers

  10. All the Teen Wolf ones - FINALLY caught up (well, kinda) and this episode was great but the whole scene with DoucehOrderly, Lydia, Stiles and Meredith's reveal was fantastic! Can't wait for tonight's episode (even if I have to wait to watch it until tomorrow)!

  11. You won't regret checking out Teen Wolf - I got into it because of Dahne's recommendation during the Character Cup and it has quickly become one of my favorite shows - only took me about three weeks to get thru all three seasons and caught up with S4. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

  12. Watch it at the same time as it regularly airs on Monday and I'll live tweet with you. Just let me know your Twitter again. I was a huge fan of the DoucheOrderly, Lydia and Stiles combination.

  13. Deal! Twitter is @heifer2cow.

I haven't seen episodes 7 or 8 because they are locked on MTV.com and not posted on hulu+ yet but last week's episode was available so I am hoping tonight's will be too :-)

  14. Honourable mentions:
Doctor Who: Clara (a rare good line for her): "Nothing is more important than my egomania!"
Pretty much everything The Doctor said.

  15. Yeah I liked it. Watched the first 2 episodes tonight.

  16. If you just tweet me @dahne1 then I can add you to my list from there. I'll be live tweeting at 9 CST.

  17. Contrived drama for drama's sake is one of my biggest TV pet peeves. Supernatural has gotten really bad about it. I will probably watch 9.09 tonight, but I'm really waiting for the shoe to drop when Sam learns Dean's been keeping secrets again.

  18. Cool. Glad you've liked it so far. Stiles is definitely the overall fandom favorite largely because of his humor. Episode 1.03 is one of my least favorites in the entire show and is the source of all my bowling jokes on the podcast. Episode 7 jumps right back into the A- range for me though.

  19. Agreed. As for that reveal, yeah, I think that might be the moment I stopped watching. Not a great place to start when I'm gonna be catching up.

  20. Episode 10 hasn't posted online yet :-( They probably won't post it until tomorrow like they normally would. Breaks my little heart!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Although it sucks, it does make sense. They want people to watch it tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agreed on both counts (makes sense but still sucks!). All well, I was following the live tweets last night and will follow along again tonight in case there was anything I missed last night (obsessed, who me?? Nah. Well, maaaaaybe a little :-P).
