Rachel Brosnahan has signed on to star in CBS' new miniseries The Dovekeepers, the network announced Wednesday.

Set in ancient Israel, the four-hour miniseries is executive -produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett and based on Alice Hoffman's historical novel of the same name about four women whose lives become entwined at the siege of Masada. Having been forced from their homes in Jerusalem by the Romans, the women all have unique backstories but share a common bond for survival.

Brosnahan (Manhattan, House of Cards) will play Yael, a fearless young woman whose own mother died while giving birth to her, and whose father blames her for that loss.

During her journey to Masada, Yael has a whirlwind romance that touches her life even after she arrives. However, she finds support in her brother, Amram (Diego Boneta) and a fellow dovekeeper named Shirah, played by former NCIS star Cote de Pablo.

The Dovekeepers is slated to premiere in 2015 on CBS.

  1. Can't say I love the premise, to be completely honest. But Rachel Brosnahan and Diego Boneta are enough to give it a try.
