The SpoilerTV 2014 Episode Competition - Winner and Final Words

9 Jul 2014

And so, the SpoilerTV 2014 Episode Competiton draws to a close, as we can announce the winner. Many of you will have seen on the final's post, but the winner comes from...

For the second time (from two competitions), the CW's Beauty and the Beast reigns triumphant, with its episode 'About Last Night' beating The Mentalist's 'Blue Bird' by 338 votes. For a time, it looked like the result was going to be far closer, but in the end, Beauty and the Beast ran away with it. Nevertheless, it was a great final between two shows with large fanbases on SpoilerTV.

Last year's competition was far more popular amongst fans, with 14,500 page viewers for the final this year in comparison to 33,000 for last year's final and 18,000 for last year's semi-final.

I'd like to thank those of you who voted, whether you only voted in one poll, all of them, or anywhere in between. All votes were important and much appreciated. This competition wouldn't have been anywhere near as successful as it has been without all of you voting and sharing the polls.

Below you can find a summary of the results - see where your favourite episode came. It is ranked by the percentage of votes and by the round which the episode was eliminated. It's easy to figure out, and there's a key there too.

The draw:

I hope everyone enjoyed the competition. I'll be running this competition again in June 2015. Until then...

  1. Well, that's just embarrassing. Awful show. But that's what a young fandom can do I guess!

  2. Thanks Bradley, it was fun even though none of my favorites made it. Who was in the final last year for all of those page hits? I wasn't here then, sad to say.

  3. Awe-inspiring quality shows ( Game of Thrones ,Person of Interest, etc.) mowed down by much lesser minions adored by young internet active high on crushes fans.

  4. It was Castle v Beauty and the Beast.

  5. i love beauty and the beast

Same old, same old. Honestly, if there's any poll with The Mentalist, Supernatural, Castle or BatB included, it's the same results as always. In every poll, one of these shows will win.

  7. They have larger fanbases on the internet than other shows. More people voting = better chance they'll win.

there are people who like a show and people who don't like a show --- matter of taste and many other things have to do with that -- well done to all 'beasties' for being loyal and giving their show that win --and also congratulations to all shows !!! //// ( just because you don't like it ( and you have every right not to , by all means ) that doesn't mean that you can be disrespectful ... have a nice day ! ( sorry for any mistakes - english is not my mother language )

    Congratz for organizing again.

Sad chart though, among the top 20, only #3, #9 and #11 are elite, meanwhile round one has almost 10 great episodes including the best one at #39

What's the point? We all knew the answer. Thanks for your tireless work. Great job!

  17. It's meant to be a bit of fun. That's the point.

    And thanks.

The fun factor is gone many polls ago! ;)

  19. All the episodes I would have voted for got knocked out pretty early, numbers 16, 17, 30, 37 & 60 :/

    ReplyDelete
  20. Beauty and the Beast won, awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I thought this poll was about quality and not promotion. And "hateful" is a bit strong, don't you think ?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm a huge fan of BATB. I'm 37, my mom's a fan, she's 66. But whatever...you obviously know what your talking about. (insert sarcasm)

    ReplyDelete
  23. No poll on the internet ever has been about quality, because it's impossible for that to work.

    ReplyDelete
  24. sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me!! added to the fact you know nothing about the fandom....especially their age.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why is everyone going mad in the comments , its just some fun. Anyway thanks Bradley for the awesome competition , hope to see you doing it next year!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Because quality is subjective. I've watched lots of shows with good quality get overlooked by critics and viewers both while loving boring, less "good" shows or vice versa.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Doesn't surprise me Beauty & The Beast won, this is the greatest show on TV as far as I'm concerned,& to answer to Jo who wrote the comment before mine,I'm a Beastie & proud to be one and I'm not in the younger generation,I'm 64 years young & yes Jay Ryan makes my heart melt when he's in front of the camera, love that man, he's very talented & easy on the eyes, love everything about this show.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have watched the show and know its fans are loyal and know many of them , but I just wish quality would sometimes win out in polls, awards, pizza eating contests, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Interesting and revealing that my remarks touched on those particular nerves.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks so much Bradley for a fun way to pass the hiatus. I'm just glad some of my favorites got into the contest even if they did not rank very high.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was just thinking, along with the Character Cup competition, will there be any other polls? It is a good way for fans to survive the hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Adam usually does the biggest competition of them all - Best Show Contest - in August. I agree that polls are a lot of fun since things tend to dry up in the TV world in summer, even with all the new shows.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I find your comment embarrassing. Why not just congratulate them and move on? You may not like the show, neither do I, but my guess is that this fandom is not as young as you think. They never are. Responses like these taint the fun for everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is hardly necessary. Attacking a fandom is not the way things are done at SpoilerTV. You have the right to your opinion about a show but cutting down an entire fandom only makes YOU look bad.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks for calling me young, a 51 years old proud Beastie! But I am feeling young at heart and mind.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks for your respect (not). FYI I'm 51 and I like GoT and PoI too. But I'm simply hooked on BatB so I will always vote for them.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks Laura, you nailed it. I totally agree.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sad chart, elite. This is not the Emmy Awards LoL. Just cor fun. And BTW, I'm a big fan of BatB but I also like GoT, Hannibal and PoI. Just to name a few. But I will always vote for BatB.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Congrats BATB!! A mighty fandom you are :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would expect that your mother is more in the average demo for BatB than you are. It is definitely aimed at a higher audience much in the same way Castle is. You don't see them being pegged as teenagers.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow, those results just make me feel all warm and fuzzy, the Mentalist gave it a serious run for the money Thanks Bradley and Spoiler Tv that was fun, even if my favorite episode of BATB, hadn't won I'd still say that was a good distraction, Mentalist fandom you guys rock, that was serious competition, it was fun seeing my favorite episodes of Castle going head to head, Thanks again Spoilertv for the hard work you guys do!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'd like to add to this age equation, although I'm young at heart or so I've been told I'm a 59 year old grandma and a die hard BATB, fan, so I really don't think age has anything to do with liking a show or not, you have the distinction, of watching, change the channel, or in this case just keep, voting for the shows you like, maybe next year your shows will win.

    ReplyDelete
  43. lol, sure if that's what you want to tell yourself to excuse your rude, judgemental, unnessasary comment. Which by the way is interesting and revealing about yourself. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congratulations Beast fans. I helped you out on some polls even though I've only seen the pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I just don't believe in relying on other's opinions. The only good show is one you like, whether or not others like or hate it too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I could've sworn I commented on this post about a hour ago but I don't see my comment now. I guess someone else saw out and didn't appreciate it and deleted it. I guess I'm not entitled to my own opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks Bradley for running the competition - was loads of fun!!

Congrats to the BATB fans - you voted your hearts out :-)

  48. Despoina Lampridou10 July 2014 at 08:10

    thank you ;)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jeez. I didn't mean that comment to be taken so seriously! LOL! I think BatB is childish, yes, but I have my guilty pleasure fandom too... Anyway... sorry if I offended you guys. It was only supposed to be a giggle. *Shrug*

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'M a huge fan of BATB. I'm 69 love the show!

    ReplyDelete
  51. We "Beasties" (at least I) expected good things from ep. "About Last Night" and really, it was very nice.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I happen to love this show BatB and dont like anyone trashing any show, because those shows have fans happen to love their show. It depends what type of genre you like. I can truthfully say that I watched both shows, both were great episodes, and when it came to the vote I voted BatB, why because I liked it more. It's matter of pref. And by the way, the Mentalist and BatB were both close to being on the chopping block this year and I believe both shows got renewed because of the passionate fans. I'm sure you all will agree to that. More and more networks are renewing shows because of fans passion for their shows. So lets congratulate each other on beating the odds people. Just be happy we are still around

    ReplyDelete
  53. You're right Rob, something seriously wrong with today's society when people dont congratulate the winner or even fans of both shows. Anonymity has a lot to do with that, guess people get away with a lot with that. It's matter of preference. I happen to love this show and it caters to a specific audience, those that like romance with a little action thrown in. Since there is no show on TV like this one (in my opinion anyway), the viewing audience is not great in the US, but this show is currently selling like hotcakes in the int'l market, if it wasn't making money for the network, do people really think they would have renewed it. You should see the social media on this show. Thanks Rob, for being nice

  54. Ralph, I see your comment below, wasnt deleted unless you had another one. BaTB fan

    ReplyDelete
  55. Your welcome. I just don't see the point in people hating towards a show that other people enjoy just because it has a big enough fan base to win these competitions.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That was a different one that I actually posted after I noticed my previous one had been deleted.

    ReplyDelete
  57. *sigh* I really wanted Game of Thrones to win :3
    But congrats to BATB fans!
