Marvel Announces Guardians of the Galaxy Animated Series

27 Jul 2014

At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Animation unveiled the newest addition to its growing lineup of animated series: Guardians of the Galaxy.

The series was revealed at the Marvel Animation panel with a one-minute trailer that prominently featured Guardians characters Rocket Raccoon and Star Lord. As Marvel is fond of synergy across all of its entertainment properties, it’s likely that the lineup for the series will very closely resemble that of the Guardians film, which premieres next week.

No word on when the Guardians series would premiere.

    I'm kinda mixed on this.
Ultimate Spider-Man started out terribly but seems to finally be getting watchable (though it's still one of the worst Spider-man shows).
Avengers Assemble is hit-or-miss but I like how some of the lesser known (to the general audience) villains are being used.
Hulk and the agents of S.M.A.S.H. is terrible.

I assume this will spin out of the GOTG episode this season on Ultimate Spider-man (Season 3 episode 13).

We're probably also getting a Wolverine show based on the licensing expo earlier this year:

  2. I've never seen any Marvel animated series', but I would watch this...that, ummm,..is ok for an adult, right?

  3. This is interesting... Their designs are based off of the DnA-era Guardians, not the current Bendis-led era. Given that the movie Guardians are also inspired by the DnA-era, it seems like Marvel has decided to break their normal focus on synergy with the comics. I'm guessing this is because Bendis is powerful enough to resist having to change his books for the movies, while the MU execs recognize that the DnA-era is by far the creative peak for GotG stories.

Given the previous hamfisted attempts at crossplatform synergy, this can only be a good thing. ("Hey everyone, meet Marcus Johnson! He's the secret black son of Nick fury! And he just lost one eye and also his hair and now he wears an eyepatch and has decided to take on his father's entire name!")

  4. Depends on the quality. And I wouldn't get too excited. Of the three current Marvel cartoons, not a single one of them is any good.

  5. The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon which had 2 series was much better and more adult friendly, they cancelled it and replaced it with Avengers Assemble which is just terrible.

  7. If Hulk and Agents of SMASH and Avengers are picked up for a 3 season and premieres after Avengers 2 will that aftermath tie in with the Animated Series?

reason why i'm asking is bc in the season 1 finale of AA, Red Skull was revealed to work for Thanos. I heard Thanos might be involved in Avengers 2?

  8. Yes, watch what you want. There is no law saying adults can't watch animated series.

  9. The animated series aren't connected to the movie verse though they often takes bits from the films and the many different comic verses.

Thanos though is probably in Avengers 2 in a small way and I wouldn't be surprised if Red Skull was still out there working for him - well he did just disappear into what looked like the middle of space in The First Avenger.

  10. He's disappeared with Tesseract and offered it to Thanos in the season finale.

but i wanna know if both shows are renewed for a third does it mean Hulk won't be in it if rumors are true of having disappearing into space at the end of Avengers 2.

Earth Mightiest Heroes did tie in with the Thor Films if you remember. Towards the end of Thor he gets stucked in Asgard which is exactly how it occured in EMH.
