JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT JOINS THE CAST OF “CRIMINAL MINDS”
THIS JUST IN…

…From the CBS Television Network

LOS ANGELES, July 1, 2014 – Jennifer Love Hewitt has joined the cast of CRIMINAL MINDS as a series regular. Her character will be introduced in the series’ 10th season premiere, Wednesday, Oct. 1 (9:00-10:00 PM) on the CBS Television Network.

Hewitt will play Kate Callahan, a seasoned undercover agent whose stellar work at the FBI has landed her a coveted position with the Behavioral Analysis Unit.

“We’re thrilled to introduce a new special agent by adding the very talented Jennifer Love Hewitt to our amazing cast,” said Erica Messer, Executive Producer/Showrunner. “Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season.”

For five seasons, Hewitt starred as Melinda Gordon in “Ghost Whisperer,” on the Network. Her additional television credits include the series “The Client List,” based on the television movie of the same name, which she executive produced and received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Movie or Miniseries Made for Television, “The Lost Valentine,” opposite Betty White, the title role in “The Audrey Hepburn Story,” based on the life of the Academy Award-winning actress, and “Party of Five.”

Hewitt’s feature film credits include “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” the sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Heartbreakers,” with Sigourney Weaver, Gene Hackman and Ray Liotta, “The Tuxedo,” opposite Jackie Chan, “Garfield” and “Garfield 2: A Tale of Two Kitties.” Her additional feature film credits include the independent features “The Truth About Love” and “If Only,” which she produced with her production company, Fedora Films.

CRIMINAL MINDS stars Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, AJ Cook and Kirsten Vangsness. It is produced by ABC Studios in association with CBS Television Studios.

  1. Back to CBS, huh?
I'm not very fond of them and their shows ever since they cancelled Ghost Whisperer but I will watch her in this one.

  2. Oh wow, never would have guessed this. Will be interesting to see how she meshes with the cast.

  3. God damnit, now I have to watch Criminal Minds for the first time in my life... Start at S10, end when JLH leaves or gets killed off the show

How long before she has a piss and moan wanting her real life husband to play the cop or to be the killer?

  6. Well that's a plot twist.

CBS is in a good, grooving mood. Now let's hope to see a Brooke Elliot cast for The Good Wife. *finger crossed*

  9. One hell of a surprise pick, that's for sure! Having a hard time picturing her on the show, but we'll see how it pans out. Hopefully it works.

  10. She's Blake's replacement?

    Ain't that some s***!

  11. It depends on what fails1 July 2014 at 22:57

Unpopular opinion here given the amount of fans she has, but casting her is as terrible as casting Katherine Heigl.

  12. Cancelling GW and ABC, which coproduced, not picking it up was a mistake. Not really surprised since CM also is a joint ABC/CBS production. I'm surprised CBS hasn't tried harder to get more "younger" actors on its procedurals.

  13. Now i'll never watch this show.

  14. I didn't think they would filling Tripletorn's roll and now more than ever I wished they hadn't.

Seriously! I guess now I'll be skipping this show more than I usually do. I know she has lots of fans out there and I didn't mind her in either PoF or GW, but she feels completely misscast for CM and I'll have a hard time not imaginig her helping the victims "cross over".

  16. Ahahahahahah. I'm sorry but no. Just no. Sweet lady but actress on Criminal Mind's she just doesn't seem like a good fit.

  17. LOL I know exactly what you I mean I just can't picture her vibe working on this show.

Exactly! I think somebody already said it on a post below, but she's almost as bad a choice as Katherine Heigl would've been, and I love KH, but some actors and shows just don't mix. I hope I'm wrong and she's able to pull it off, but given her previous performances I have my reservations. Still, we'll just have to wait and see.

Ahaha, I thought of this, too! I'm already wondering if they're going to play off that somehow or something with her character. I'm hoping no, 'cause that would be....weird. Either that or she'll have an 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' type of event happen to her.

Oh yeah! they can probably add some traumatic experience to her past in which her friends/family were killed by some serial killer or something, alhough they already did that with JJ's replacement back in the day, except it was her dad who was the killer, but close enough if you ask me. I know is wrong to "type cast" or in this case to only picture her a specific type of character, it's just that she's always played the "girl next door" kind of character (at least in what I've seen her in), and seasoned covert agent is so far from her confort zone that I fear it will be laughable...
If anyone knows of any seriously dramatic role of her, please point the way so I can actually base my opinion on solid material. Thanks!

I wasn't a fan of Blake when she joined, but she grew on me. If they had to replace her, I wish they'd gone for a more "dramatic" choice instead of melodramatic one.

  22. I can't help you there, as I only know her from the aforementioned horror movie in my comment above as well as what I've seen of "Ghost Whisperer", but yeah, she had the "girl next door" thing going on in those, too. Even in 'I Know What You Did...', sure, her character helped cover up a murder, but she was still the damsel in distress type instead of turning all dark side or something like that (I think the most that happened was she went around looking all depressed and mopey for a while). But I will second your request from those who may know of some other roles she's done that don't quite fit the image of her we all know!
And you know, some actors and actresses are just particularly good at certain roles. There's nothing wrong with that in and of itself, it's good for an actor to know their strengths and play to those, and some have made a nice living that way. Just that it makes it harder for them to be taken seriously in a role outside their typical work as a result (one can argue about how fair or not fair that is to the actor in question, of course, but it's what happens).
Even though her type of character is the same in what I've seen with her, I will say that her being in horror films and a show where she communicates with the dead does explain a little better why the powers that be think she might fit into a show like this, given that the subject matter in those films/shows is just as dark and creepy as that of "Criminal Minds". So that could possibly work in her favor on some level.
I do hope that she is able to exceed people's expectations and that this does work out (even if only for a season or two, a la Blake). I have no issue with her as a person, so I'm not going to sit here and trash her. I'll just hope for the best and keep an open mind about all of this and see what happens.
    (Holy tl;dr post, Batman.)

I agree on all accounts. I have no problem with her as a person or actress, and I hope she fits well with the rest of the cast and does justice to the the character in question.

  25. Random, but I love her and JLH may lure me back to this show.

  26. So, CBS (and CM's producers) are taking another shot at re-vamping this show--and i's already meeting with the infamous CM Fan Mafia attacks. Good luck, JLove: every new cast member has either been dropped (Rachel Nichols) or leave on their own (Jeanne Tripletorn) because of lack of fan support. Bottom line: CM is a Closed Shop.

  27. I like her a lot more than the actress that played Blake so good news for me

  28. I am not a huge fan of her, but as long as she won't be overshadowing the rest of the cast, especially J.J. I'll be fine!!!

  29. Are they trying to ruin the show or something?
