Scene Of The Week - June 22, 2014 - POLL

22 Jun 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently on TV.

24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY, "Day 9: 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.", June 16, 2014, Actors: William Devane, Kim Raver
The Scene: Heller's last scene with Audrey
Bradley Adams:
Man, that was emotional.

AWKWARD, "Snow Job", June 17, 2014, Actors: Elizabeth Whitson and more
The Scene: Eva confirms that she's pregnant
Samy Bgs:
Eva takes a test and apparently, she really is pregnant.

BABY DADDY, "You Can't Go Home Again", June 18, 2014, Actors: Derek Theler, Chelsea Kane
The Scene: Riley and Danny say goodbye
Klutzy girl:
This scene definitely hurt because once again, Danny gets his heart broken and keeps on going. And I'm thrilled Ben finally realized how his brother feels about Riley. I am even more convinced now that Danny/Riley will be endgame.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, "Cold Case", June 16, 2014, Actors: Kristin Kreuk, Nicole Gale Anderson
The Scene: Cat and Heather talk
Tonya Papanikolas:
Cat and Heather finally have a heart to heart after Heather learns the truth. It was so nice to have Heather back. She grounds Cat and makes her realize what is important. I just love her character. Heather always wanted her sister's love and it was touching to see Cat finally let her into her emotional world. What a great scene between the sisters. I loved Nicole Gale Anderson's performance. Heather blaming herself for pushing Cat away was sad and sweet. It was powerful to watch her note how hard it must have been for Cat when no one believed her story about her mom's death and what she saw. Most of the emotional moments in the show are reserved for Cat and Vincent so it was nice to broaden the canvas and showcase a real relationship outside of theirs. I liked that the sisters shared a bond over knowing what really happened when their mom died.

DEFIANCE, "The Opposite of Hallelujah", June 19, 2014, Actors: Grant Bowler, Stephanie Leonidas
The Scene: Irisa and Nolan reunite
Klutzy girl:
Their relationship is my favorite one on the show, and this was a sweet scene.

FARGO, "Morton's Fork", June 17, 2014, Actors: Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Colin Hanks
The Scenes: Lester traps Malvo & Gus kills Malvo
Sharon Seymour:
Lester traps Malvo with a bear trap and then shoots him.
Darth Locke: Malvo works to reset his leg from Lester's bear trap only to be killed by Gus.

GAME OF THRONES, "The Children", June 15, 2014, Actors: Peter Dinklage, Rory McCann, Charles Dance and more, The Scenes: Jaime and Tyrion say goodbye & Brienne and the Hound fight & Tyrion kills Tywin
Justyna Kubica:
I'm sure most of the viewers would choose the final confrontation between Tywin and Tyrion, or the fight between two fan-favorites over Arya as the episode's best scene (and with a very good reason) but I often seem to prefer more emotional, less brutal, much quieter scenes like, in this case, Jaime and Tyrion's goodbye. I heard it was quite different from the moment described in the books and considering what I've learned, I'm glad the writers chose to change it, even though it may be a very controversial move for some. Why? It's simple. Tyrion and Jaime's relationship was one of the best surprises of the season for me. Certainly one of the reasons it ended up being the show's best season (at least for me). Somehow, despite everything, those two actually loved each other. And Jaime got another chance to do something good, trying to pay for his past sins, and he took it, accepting the possible risks. And even though he still has a long way to go, I'm really glad to see him trying. He became one of the show's most interesting characters, last season, I think. It's a shame it looks like it's the goodbye between the two. Seems like all the siblings' relationships are broken at this point. I can't even tell you how much I'd like to see the reunion between the Starks. Wishful thinking, I know. Anyway, kudos to the cast & crew for all their amazing work with the season and already can't wait for another!
Samy Bgs: Tyrion kills Tywin. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville
Darth Locke: Brienne of Tarth and The Hound duel for Arya.

MURDER IN THE FIRST, "The City of Sisterly Love", June 16, 2014, Actor: Tom Felton
The Scene: Erich Blunt sees San Francisco through virtual reality glasses
Tonya Papanikolas:
This was a fantastic visual scene. It was breathtaking. I loved how Erich was above the city and the viewer sees all the changes that he is ordering to his virtual reality program. You get to see the ocean suddenly darken in color, the Bay Bridge added to the horizon - and then Erich steps out from his tower-like ledge onto thin air - and walks. It worked because you are seeing his virtual reality - what he is seeing through the glasses. What a great scene. These days it's hard to wow with all the special effects out there but this one was incredible.

ORPHAN BLACK, "By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried", June 21, 2014, Actors: Tatiana Maslany, Jordan Gavaris, The Scenes: Helena meets the other clones & The dance party
Justyna Kubica:
What an impressive season! Somehow bigger and more evolved than the first one, even though I think that overall I liked season one better. So many great moments this week that would be worth mentioning here, but still, this scene is certainly one of the show's best. Helena meets the rest of the Clone Club and reunites with Kira. If anyone needs the proof what a wonderful actress Tatiana Maslany I would really recommend watching this finale or, at the very least, this scene. I keep forgetting that she's playing all those amazingly complicated characters cause despite their appearance they always seem so different to me. It's surprisingly hard to miss it. Everyone's reactions in this emotional moment are great. Though I have to admit, I certainly expected something different, considering everything Helena's done in the (not so distant) past. Kudos to Tatiana Maslany and everyone responsible for the editing and the effects on the show. It feels so real, fantastic work! I'm gonna miss the show, hopefully the news about season 3 will come very soon.
Jamie Coudeville: The difference between Cosima and Allison's reactions was so great. Amazing editing with four clones in one shot. Also picked by Samy Bgs
Darth Locke: Family Dance Party at Felix's loft.

RIZZOLI AND ISLES, "A New Day", June 17, 2014, Actors: Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander and more
The Scene: Everyone shows up at the accident scene
Klutzy girl:
Not entirely sure why they traumatized themselves like that, but I'm glad they were able to lean on each other for support. And it hurts even more because of Lee Thompson Young's death. Hopefully the characters will able to grieve together. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville

  3. Kira meets Cosima. And they do science together. And it helps save Sarah. I mean, these two have known about each other for the longest time, been willing to sacrifice themselves for each other, and never met until now. Completely natural payoff for very long buildup.
    Helena meets Alison and Cosima.
    Dance Party at Clone Club.
    Charlotte meets Sarah.

all 3 game of thrones scenes, and my 4th would have been the accident seen in Rizzoli & Isles. LTY has been one of my favorite actors since Famous Jett Jackson, and his appearance on smallville made me make a wide grin.

  5. The Baby Daddy and Beauty and the Beast scenes.

    Off the list:

Dominion (Syfy): Michael fights the Power angel (great fighting sequence), Jeep tells Alex he's the Chosen one, and Michael bows before Alex and tells everyone Alex is the baby he saved 25 years ago.

Other favorites from Dominion: Jeep shows up at Michael's house and William is revealed to be helping Gabriel.

  8. The Cat and Heather scenes on Beauty and the Beast (BatB) were touching. Nice to see the sisters bonding and Heather finding out about Vincent. On 24 LAD the scene between President Heller and Audrey was very sad as he was saying goodbye without her knowing what he was doing.

Seeing Bo with both her parents was such a sad, but lovely moment. It was a really good show, I'll definitely miss it.

  10. Lester traps Malvo. Good for Lester! He finally figured out how to be a man. Not a good man, but not a weasel, anyway.

I loved those two scenes from orphan black , but i would add sarah pulling the fire extinguisher and launching the pencil on Rachel. that scene remind me so much the finale of Breaking bad, a very smart person using scince to do some damage.

  13. I'm kind of a gushy fan. Only took one episode. lol

The show has its faults, but I thought it had a good start. If you like the themes (supernatural/angels/apocalypse/etc.) it helps.
