Ratings Breakdown:
CBS got over the Wednesday “hump” in winning overnight fashion, with a 0.3 household rating point advantage over second-place Fox. “Survivor” topped the 8 p.m. hour with a 6.1 rating/10 share, followed by the season-finale of “Criminal Minds” (#1: 7.6/12) and an encore of “CSI” (#1: 5.3/ 9) from 9-11 p.m. Next season, “CSI” moves to Sunday at 10 p.m. (out of “The Good Wife”), where it will share the time period with new spin-off “CSI: Cyber.” Filling the time period will be new drama “Stalker,” which looked addictively intense based on the clips at the Eye net’s presentation yesterday.

On Fox, the 500th episode of “American Idol” perked up to a 6.0/10 from 8-10 p.m., which was seven percent above the 5.6/ 9 one week earlier. But “Idol” was still down by a hefty 29 percent from the 8.4/14 in the 8 p.m. hour on the year-ago evening. Once the dominant factor on Fox’s line-up, the network barely even mentioned it at its upfront presentation earlier this week.

On ABC, part one of the two-part season-finale of “Modern Family” was the standout, of course, with a 6.5/10 at 9 p.m. Comparably, that built from the series-finale of lead-in “Suburgatory” (#3: 3.7/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.) by 76 percent. Next was lead-out “Mixology,” which earned its cancellation stripes, with a fourth-place 2.8/ 4 at 9:30 p.m. “Nashville” concluded its sophomore season at a typically uneventful 3.6/ 6 (#3) at 10 p.m., and “The Middle” opened the night with a third-place 5.0/ 8 at 8 p.m. Next season, ABC will feature relocated “The Goldbergs” out of “The Middle” and new sitcom “Black-ish” out of “Modern Family.”

Elsewhere, canceled “Revolution” on NBC earned its pink slip, with a fourth-place 2.8/ 5 from 8-9 p.m. And it led into typical overnights for veteran “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 3/.7/ 6) and freshman “Chicago PD” (#2: 4.0/ 7) from 9-11 p.m., which will both remain intact next season (out of new drama “The Mysteries of Laura”). Unless “The Mysteries of Laura” ignites interest in the 8 p.m. hour, which is highly unlikely, there is no reason to believe NBC will improve on Wednesday next fall.

The CW, meanwhile, featured the season-finale of “Arrow” (#5: 1.9/ 5), which was on par from one year earlier, followed by “The 100” (#5: 1.3/ 2). Both dramas will remain intact on the night next season.
