A set source says the show has bumped up production and cut season 4 to 10 episodes to accommodate Bilson.

2 weeks ago, Hart of Dixie editor Brandi Bradburn also mentioned they were looking at 10 episodes:

  3. Rachel Bilson is pregnant, she can't hide it for long + the show is set to come-back at mid-season

  4. I hope they will announce that it is final season soon. I love this show very much, but it is most likely final season and once they announce it is final season i will be happy that we will get proper ending

    ReplyDelete
  5. So we were probably looking at about 13 before she announced her pregnancy,

  6. I find it very odd that the CW goes to all the trouble of renewing low rated shows for forths and even third seasons (see Beauty and the Beast) and then doesn't let them achieve the 88 mark.

I suppose it is odd on one hand. Then again, on the other, how much value do we think that extremely low-rated, heavily serialized programs like these are going to be worth in syndication? I think syndication and the minimum episode mark are going to be less relevant in the coming years. Unless the show is a comedy or procedural of some sort, syndication probably isn't happening anyway.

  8. Well B&TB is owned by CBS Studios and they need to make some revenue. Otherwise, they're getting nothing out of it like WB does.

Yes that is interesting and odd. What I find interesting also is the episode orders for reccent final seasons of CW shows
    Nikita 6
    GG 10
BatB( assuming season three is the end but hey I expected it to be cancelled this season and it's strange it got a short order instead of a full third and short fourth for syndication but then it's ratings are so low already) 13
    HoD 10
    OTH 13

I bet Nikita fans are gonna be angry that GG,HoD BatB all got more episodes in thier final season than Nikita( assuming BatB next season is its last).

Calm Down.Just be thankful it got another season and enjoy it

  12. I wish UPN had just died and The WB continued. It's so stupid how they have to constantly make sure they aren't favoring one of the two companies over the other. The only CBS owned show on The CW that I've truly loved was The Secret Circle, the others have tended to be the ones I avoided. Only learning this by checking these shows Wikipedia pages but it's interesting that I have preferred the Warner Bros shows in most cases.

  13. I can see this renewed for another season if it is steady!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well from what I've read, it because Netflix want shows that have proper ending, so 88 episodes hardly matter to them.

  15. Brandy Danforth25 May 2014 at 22:18

    That's an unconfirmed rumor.

    ReplyDelete
  16. the only explaination I have for this is the netflix push.

Remember when we were talking about my unlikely wish of giving each cancelled show a mini 'finisher' season (6-11 episodes) because Netflix makes more profit of shows with clean endings ?
I'd like to think that this is something similar, a way to give closure to shows for Netflix.

At least I'd REALLY like to think that this is the reason (I can't think of another anyway).
Imagine a perfect world in wich every show was wrapped up *_*

  17. I still think 6 episodes was too short for Nikita, but I'm just glad we got a final season.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I read that she's pregnant....they probably won't be putting that into the show

    ReplyDelete
  19. I thought that those 6 episodes was a nice and succinct victory lap. It might have dragged if it had went on longer. As much as I love Nikita I think a 6 episode final season was beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I can only have closure if I get my Lavon /AB together/happy ending.... lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. It was beautiful and they made every episode count. But some things (e.g. Alex/Owen) were rushed and there were some storylines that the producers wanted to do or wanted to revisit, but couldn't because of the restricted number of episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Or they will end on that fact.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Maybe it should be a good last season.

    ReplyDelete
  24. If they already announced that she is pregnant won't the next episodes be filmed after delivery? Or will they jump on it and film now?

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Secret Circle was a WB-Show. :)

They moved up production, meaning they'll start filming earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  27. At least these 10 episodes will be more plot orinentated it moved so slowly last season.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Consider Nikita fans lucky. 90210 never got its own final season. Nikita at least got to tie every thing up ahead of time while 9-Oh only had the benefit of being given "advanced" notice of its cancelation while production for its fifth season finale was still underway so they were only able to furnish a decent ending, tying up as much ongoing loose ends as they can.

  29. UPN had a lot of shows that weren't strictly from its parent CBS's TV studios, as they had programs from Fox and the WB, among others. Same goes for the WB, a fair number of past titles weren't made by Warner Brothers.

Much of the CW's top-raters are co-prods anyway, with distribution handled by WB.

    ReplyDelete
  30. For a small and young broadcast network, I think it's more cost effective if the net's shows would come from their own parent companies' studios. But to be fair for the CW, they did have shows that they either don't own or have co-produced with another major studio, Reaper and Ringer. They also don't own ANTM but distribution and format licensing is handled by CBS.

In the end, it doesn't matter matter which shows are made by whom. The bottomline is if the CW is making money on whatever business model their following that keeps itself afloat (which new media and international sales play major factors).

  31. Haha.. they used my tweet!! weee.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, I don't think they is the final season yet. They announced it's return but never that it was the final season. They also cut this season to 10 due to RB's pregnancy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd accept 10 episodes for season 4 only if there will be another season!!!
I miss Hart of dixie so much :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. Do you think are there good chances to get another season after the season 4? The sentence they used " ...CUT season 4 to 10 episodes to accommodate Bilson" give me some little hope! But i don't wanna delude myself again. =(

    ReplyDelete
  35. 10 episodes mean final season right? i'm happy they are doing that to give the fans some sort of closure.

    ReplyDelete
  36. thats a shame i love HoD one of my favourites. But its the best for Rachel Bilson as she wont be able to hide her bump for long and would have to leave anyway. But there its also a possibility to return as they wont be able complete a story line in 10 episodes

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks. I lack reading skills lol.

  38. Christopher DeBono27 May 2014 at 04:00

It most likely is the final season but suspiciously they haven't confirmed it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Christopher DeBono27 May 2014 at 04:10

    'Good chances' no. Possibility yes.

Since the CW haven't announced any show as a final season yet it makes me think something is up. If they were renewed with the intention of it being a final season then we would have been told at the upfronts.

What I personally think they plan on doing, is waiting to see how the other new shows do. HoD is apparently really cheap so they may keep it around as cheap spackle till they get something better to replace it. A budget decision in a sense (plus pushing it closer to 88 wont hurt it).

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's what i thought.... Let's keep our fingers crossed. I love so much this show!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think the shorter season has more to do with Rachel and her pregnancy more so than anything else. If HoD maintains the utility player status it currently has with the network with those ten episodes, I don't see why they wouldn't renew it. Especially if JtV doesn't manage to fill HoD's shoes...

But 10 episodes Mean That They Might Cancel The Show After season 4 I dont wnt that to happen
