Scene Of The Week - March 9, 2014 - POLL

9 Mar 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

ARROW, "The Promise", March 5, 2014, Actors: Manu Bennett, Stephen Amell and more
The Scenes: Slade meets the team & The cameras in the Queen mansion are revealed
Justyna Kubica:
I'm always the fan of the Team moments and this certainly felt like a great one. The scene where Roy and Sara show up at the Queen mansion, with Felicity's technical support and Diggle on the sniper's position in front of the house, was one of the most intense parts I've seen on the show recently. The way everyone hid their feelings, giving all the actors opportunity for a fantastic interaction, was so well done. The hand shake was pretty much exactly the first meeting between the two men injected with the Mirakuru I wanted to see. Once Roy gets better at controlling his new found strength, I'd love to see the confrontation between him and Slade. It could be quite a fight! Also really enjoyed seeing Sara's entrance and the look on Wilson's face. Something tells me she might be his main target in his entire revenge plot against Oliver. After all, she's the one who lived, when Shado died. I definitely have a bad feeling about it. But for now, I'm really excited to see what's gonna happen next, especially when the team gets to face Slade without any potential innocent victims with them.
Bradley Adams: Slade is watching the Queen mansion through cameras he placed.
Daniel van der Veer: When Sara and Roy entered the Queen mansion, tensions ran quite high. Roy's firm hand-shake with Slade was funny, but when Slade saw Sara again he almost lost it. Great acting by Manu Bennett (for the rest of the episode as well).

BANSHEE, "Homecoming", March 7, 2014, Actor: Hoon Lee, The Scene: Job's escape from Priest's church
Sandi wich:
Job's escape from Priest's church only to end up being hit by a car. It was a bit scary to watch as he's probably my favourite character on the show and this is the tightest fix we've ever seen him in. It was great to see him in such an action scene, more bad ass Job next season please! Also picked by Sharon Seymour and DarkUFO

BATES MOTEL, "Gone But Not Forgotten", March 3, 2014, Actors: Nicola Peltz and more, The Scene: Bradley seduces then kills her dad's boss (picked by Sharon Seymour, DarkUFO and Darth Locke)

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, "Catch Me if You Can", March 3, 2014, Actors: Kristin Kreuk, Jay Ryan
The Scene: Vincent and Cat kiss (picked by Virginia Fontana)

BROOKLYN NINE NINE, "Tactical Village", March 4, 2014, Actors: Andy Samberg, Melissa Fumero
The Scene: Jake almost asks Amy out
Pablozky21:
As a fan of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, one thing that has been missing a little bit during the season was character development on Jake Peralta; though there were little moments that showed evolution, he stayed practically the same, but in this episode it became evident that Jake is actually able to be serious and he also kind of admits his feelings for Amy Santiago when he asks her out. Or well... tries to, because of this Teddy guy Amy already had plans with and Jake has to lie saying it was just a work thing, but you can see that he is really affected. It's a nice moment in the relationship of the two and Andy Samberg makes the scene go from good to great.

CASTLE, "In the Belly of the Beast", March 3, 2014, Actors: Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion and more
The Scenes: The ending scene & Kate's letter
Diana Mack:
Castle and Beckett find out Senator Bracken was the one to save Beckett's life and now that they're even, next time she knows they will kill each other. Also, when Bracken is shown on tv, he's running for the Presidential campaign. The two are shocked (and me too, lol). That was a evil plot twist, I wonder if we will see Bracken in the season finale and if his appereance will threaten Castle and Beckett's wedding. Jamie Coudeville: Kate's letter.

COUGAR TOWN, "Too Much Ain't Enough", March 4, 2014, Actors: Dan Byrd, Josh Hopkins
The Scene: Travis tells Grayson he's acting like a father
Klutzy girl:
It was sweet, and I love how far their relationship has come.

ELEMENTARY, "Ears to You", March 6, 2014, Actors: Sean Pertwee, Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu
The Scene: Lestrade thinks he's outsmarted Holmes and Holmes lets him believe it (picked by Virginia Fontana)

ENLISTED, "Parade Duty", March 7, 2014, Actors: Geoff Stults, Chris Lowell
The Scene: Derrick tells Pete he's a hero
Klutzy girl:
Derrick tells Pete he deserves to be on the float because he's a hero. The brothers' relationship is one of my favorite things about the show.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, "Vesuvius", March 3, 2014, Actors: Josh Radnor, Cristin Milioti
The Scenes: The Mother tells Ted that he shouldn't live in his stories & The last scene
Pablozky21:
Aside from the controversy of the episode and the discussion of whether The Mother is dead or alive in 2030, the episode was pretty much outstanding, and this moment was both sweet and touching. The Mother grabbed Ted's hand and she told him that life only moves forward and that he can't just live in his stories. It is an important lesson for Ted, he has to hold dear for those stories but they can't be who he is, which is funny considering that the whole show is constructed in a sense of nostalgia around those very same stories. I believe The Mother lives, and aside from Ted telling these stories to his kids, he actually managed to move forward, living his life with his wife, kids and friends without depending on his past stories to be someone.
Jamie Coudeville: The "what kind of mother misses her daughter's wedding" part. I swear if she's dead I'll throw a fit so big you'll be able to see it from space.

NCIS, "Dressed to Kill", March 4, 2014, Actors: Michael Weatherly, Robert Wagner
The Scene: Tony approves of his father's wedding
Daniel van der Veer:
After all the trouble Tony and his father went through in this episode, they finally make up. More importantly, Tony gives his approval for his father's wedding and tells him that his mother would have approved too. Beautiful scene between Michael Weatherly and Robert Wagner.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND, "Nothing to Fear", March 6, 2014, Actors: Emma Rigby and more
The Scene: The Red Queen decides to stay and fight
Tyler James:
The Red Queen tells Alice, Cyrus and Will that they are going to stay, fight and take back Wonderland from Jafar.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "RAM", March 4, 2014, Actors: Amy Acker and more
The Scene: Root returns at the end (picked by Bradley Adams)

REIGN, "The Consummation", March 6, 2014, Actors: Rossif Sutherland, Adelaide Kane and more
The Scenes: Nostradamus finds out Clarissa’s still alive & Mary and Francis marry
Samy Bgs:
Nostradamus goes to the woods to look for Clarissa’s body and he finds out that she’s still alive. Why do I like this scene? I don't know, I've liked Clarissa since the pilot and knowing that she was dead broke my heart into pieces. I do hope she comes back to court and create a real mess! Also picked by Sandi wich
Klutzy girl: Mary and Francis marry. I love them together, and am so glad they're finally married.

REVOLUTION, "Dreamcatcher", March 5, 2014, Actors: Zak Orth, David Lyons, Billy Burke and more
The Scene: Aaron meets with Rachel, Miles and Monroe in his dream & Aaron comes to the end of a second dreamscape
Pablozky21:
Nothing like an episode of Revolution where the show can just take a break and fool around, right? That's one of the reasons I loved the episode. Choosing a scene wasn't easy, but one that had Tom Neville's insurance commercial and Monroe acting all goody with his buddies has to be the top one. The moment manages to create great balance from serious and funny moments, it pitches jokes in the right time while also moving forward. A great scene to a flawless episode.
Darth Locke: Aaron comes to the end of a second dreamscape-virtual reality without ever realizing it until Dr. Calvin Horn reappears.

TEEN WOLF, "The Fox and the Wolf", March 3, 2014, Actors: Crystal Reed, Linden Ashby
The Scene: Allison and Sheriff talk in the elevator
Justyna Kubica:
First of all, Sheriff Stilinski is the best. Stiles has such an amazing father. By now we know where he got his brilliance from. Sometimes I find myself thinking why isn't the Sheriff just everyone's dad on the show. He shares really powerful moments with quite a lot of them. This time he was there for Allison. It was such a great scene! It's not just that he noticed she wasn't feeling well, stopped the elevator to give her a chance to say what she needed to say and comforted her when she broke down in tears. I love how real this interaction felt. We rarely get to see moments like this, the in-between ones, when the heroes reveal how scared, how insecure they are all the time, despite their actions and appearances. It's a human nature, to be afraid, to have doubts. And I think the real courage doesn't necessarily mean doing things that you're not scared to do, but doing them despite that fear. That's what makes someone a hero, not the powers or origins, but their decisions, their strength of spirit. So seeing Allison, brave and powerful Allison, showing her softer side like that, reminded me how much I like her character. Also Crystal Reed is always fantastic in those emotional scenes! It's a shame we didn't get to see more of her in the second part of this season. But, I still think (like a lot of others whose theories I read in the comments), there's a reason for that and I can't wait to see if we're right. What an intense and amazing season it's been!

THE BLACKLIST, "The Judge (No. 57)", March 3, 2014, Actors: James Spader, Ryan Eggold and more
The Scene: The last scene & Red talks to the Judge
Diana Mack:
The entire episode was good, but I'll pick the last scene here too when Tom reveals himself to Jolene: he's not Liz's husband and he appears to have a secret agenda. I've always had the suspicions about him, maybe because Red hit that from the pilot, but now that his double identity has been revealed, I can't wait to see Tom and Liz face to face!
Geo N: When Red is sitting across from The Judge near the end of the episode and is explaining how she shouldn't let her last "ruling" be a wrong one. The icing on the cake is right after Red stands up and he looks to Agent Cooper and says "Harold...don't look so glum" right before the camera zeros in on Coopers face, gagged with his forehead still strapped to the electrical apparatus. It was a perfect Reddington moment that was serious at first and ended so funny.

THE FOLLOWING, "Sacrifice", March 3, 2014, Actors: Shawn Ashmore and more
The Scene: Mike breaks down after watching his dad being murdered by Lily (picked by Sharon Seymour and Bradley Adams)

THE MUSKETEERS, "The Exiles", March 2, 2014, Actors: Ryan Gage and more
The Scene: Marie de Medici apologizes to her son, the King

Sandi wich: Very hard choice this week in such a great episode, nearly went with Constance's fight but I'm going to go for the scene between the King and Queen and Louis' mother, Marie de Medici, where she was manipulating her way back into his life by apologising for her past mistakes and brought up their lack of an heir. Ryan Gage really came into his own in this episode I feel, and this scene in particular the emotional conflict he portrayed was superb, although I loved his performance throughout the entire episode.

THE ORIGINALS, "Le Grand Guignol", March 4, 2014, Actors: Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Claire Holt
The Scene: The aftermath of the fire in 1919
Justyna Kubica:
I'm not always sure how I feel about this show, to be honest, I'm usually just hoping that my history with The Vampire Diaries is not gonna repeat itself with The Originals, so when I'm saying I really enjoyed this episode I truly mean it. I often prefer to skip the flashbacks in most of my shows, but this week I found them very interesting and one of my favorite scenes this time happens to be a memory. When Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah are forced to watch the fire (and what they believe to be Marcel's death) running away from their father, things get very emotional and the bond between the three is shown. I rarely feel sorry for Klaus, his actions and behavior made him someone I can't find myself rooting for, but in this scene, I felt so bad for all of them. Thanks to the great performances by the actors and a truly sad setting, I really enjoyed this moment and rewatched it a couple of times. I think the family love (despite its constant dysfunctions) is one of my favorite parts of the show and one of the main reasons I decided to watch it in the first place so I hope we get to see more of that. I wonder how the current conflict is gonna end.

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE, "Enemy of My Enemy", March 5 2014, Actors: Mark Pellegrino and more
The Scene: Jedikiah thinks Stephen is dead
Daniel van der Veer:
Once again we see a softer side of Jedikiah in this week's episode. When he believes Stephen died in the bomb in Julian's nose, he can't help but cry a little. I like how they play with the Jedikiah good guy/bad guy thing. Mark Pellegrino is an actor who is very capable of playing that game along.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "Gone Girl", March 6, 2014, Actors: Nina Dobrev, Olga Fonda and more
The Scene: Katherine says goodbye to everyone & Nadia's death
Virginia Fontana:
Katherine makes the rounds saying goodbye to the Salvatore brothers and their friends before Stefan stabs her.
Jamie Coudeville: Nadia dies. The scene of what her life should've been broke my heart.
Also picked by Diana Mack

THE WALKING DEAD, "Still", March 2, 2014, Actors: Norman Reedus, Emily Kinney
The Scenes: Daryl breaks down & Daryl and Beth play "I Never" (picked by DarkUFO and Geo N)

TRUE DETECTIVE, "After You've Gone", March 2, 2014
The Scene: Final Scene
Darth Locke:
The other detectives come across 'The Lawnmower Man' who gives them directions.

  1. Cheers Justyna! Honourable mention must go to Constance's fight, and as I've only just caught Elementary, Lestrade thinks he's outsmarted Holmes

  2. Castle - Kate's letter (by far my favorite scene this week!)
Arrow - the cameras in the Queen mansion are revealed
TTP - Jedikiah thinks Stephen is dead
    Star-Crossed - Roman's speech

Both Castle´s scenes, with the letter being 1st; the ending scene was good, but I´d pick Kate/Castle reunion, where she said he was always with her, over the ending:)

This week's picks were even harder to choose than usually. Some of my other favorites include:

    Castle - The letter
OUAT in Wonderland - Everyone together at the end with Ana deciding to stay and fight
The Musketeers - Constance fights & pretty much everything with Aramis. Have to rewatch the episode cause nothing specific comes to mind.
The Originals - The last shot
The Tomorrow People - John with Astrid deal with her fear & John's reunions with Russell and Charlie
Agents of SHIELD - "We're her family" & The reveal behind the door - woah!
    Psych - The baby's birth - Hilarious!

    And more :)

    Honorable mentions:
Arrow- Slade meets the team: Specially when he saw Sarah you could tell he was restraining a lot of resentment. It was a powerful moment.

Scandal- Olivia and Fitz fight at the beginning: One of the things that has bugged me the most about Scandal is how Fitz always seems to manipulate Olivia with his touching and stuff, so I was happy she finally was able to stand up for herself and tell Fitz to stop and that she wasn't a prize or anything, that she was a woman doing things for herself.

  6. I'm right there with you on Musketeers, did you notice that the poll here only had votes for the top three choices, not one below Good? Pretty darn unusual, lol.

  8. True Detective: Rust shows Martin the video tape, great acting from Woody and it finally brings the characters back on the same page.

Agents of SHIELD: We see what Coulson uncovered, and its freaky and horrible and god knows what is going to happen next.

The Americans: Philip and Elizabeth talk about what happened to their friends.

  9. It wasn't resentment I don't think. It was more glee of 'Hey, another person I get to kill'.

    - The Blacklist, the final scene....FINALLY!
    - Person of Interest: The episode itself was amazing, but I really liked the flashforward scene before the cabin, when they show pieces from all 3 seasons, simply wonderful.

Magic the kiss between VinCat #BATB

  25. Arrow - Slade meets the team - holy crap, the level of tension during that moment was simply unbearable as Slade looked from Oliver to Sara to Roy and coolly weighed his options. Loved the looks they all exchanged as well. The entire "Team Arrow to the rescue" sequence was pretty awesome.

I'd have voted for the end scene as well, but The CW unfortunately spoiled it by showing that Slade is watching the mansion via security cameras in the previous episode's promo, thus ruining the surprise. Bad network! Bad! Slade's eye-hole was seriously creepy and unnerving, though.

I'm relieved that Felicity's 5 seconds of screentime didn't make it to the poll by mere virture of it being Felicity/Olicity. Need an eye-rolling smiley here.

  26. Beauty and the Beast! VinCat kiss was so emotional! Lav it! hopefully to see more sweet n romantic scene of VinCat!!

  28. Really? I thought it was the worst idea of entire series. Those two simply don't match. No chemistry whatsoever.

  29. BATB Car crash. Very funny, lots of chemistry.

The episode of Castle was so great, it was hard to choose just one scene. Beckett being tortured but not giving in, Castle worried about her, the whole team trying to get her back.... but I went with Beckett's letter because it shows how much she and Castle have moved beyond where they were in the pilot.

Usually there is a scene I like from Arrow but nothing this time. In spite looking forward to Slade's appearance, the episode just didn't do it for me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. POI-but the whole episode was so amazing, I can't choose just one scene!

I particularly loved it when Harold hears the shot and thinks Reese killed the young programmer, but it switches back to Reese and his instructions to help their young charge escape, but then asks for a couple of his teeth to fake verify his death to Reese and Kara's bosses in the CIA.

I thought, "Oh, ho, now we understand why Harold will trust and choose Reese later as his helper."

  34. Well, if they are remotely going to follow history, Francis and Mary had to marry. I don't really feel that Mary has good chemistry with either Bash or Francis, frankly.

  35. Frary wedding! Loved it.

  36. They have tremendous chemistry together IMO but everyone has their own ideas.
