Solid Sampling for the Premiere/Preview of NBC Drama “Believe”
Household
Rating/Share
NBC 8.1/13
ABC 7.1/11
CBS 4.6/ 7
Fox 4.0/ 6
CW 0.8/ 1
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Monday 3/11/13:
NBC: +145, CW: +14, CBS: + 7, Fox: – 2, ABC: – 7
———-
-Winners:
“The Voice” (NBC), “The Bachelor” (ABC), “How I Met Your Mother” (CBS), “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose” (ABC), “Believe” (NBC)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Star-Crossed” (CW), “Beauty and the Beast” (CW)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC opened the week on another winning overnight note, besting No. 2 ABC (which featured the season-finale of “The Bachelor”) by 14 percent in households. Two-hours of “The Voice” topped the evening with an 8.7 rating/13 share from 8-10 p.m. (peaking in the 9:30 p.m. half hour at a 9.1/14). And it led into the series premiere/preview of J.J. Abrams drama “Believe” at a second-place 6.8/11 in the overnights in the 10 p.m. hour. Comparably, “Believe” was on par with regularly scheduled time period occupant “The Blacklist,” and it outdelivered failed year-ago drama “Deception” (2.5/ 4 on 3/11/13) by a whopping 172 percent.
Keep in mind, of course, that “Believe” will have a more difficult time attracting an audience in its regularly scheduled Sunday 9 p.m. hour (out of new reality/competition “American Dream Builders” and into new drama “Crisis”). But it did get amply sampled, which is what NBC was hoping for. Yes…lead-in still does matter.
In season-finale news, ABC’s “The Bachelor” was on the map with a 7.0/11 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was only five percent below the 7.4/12 for the season-ender on the year-ago evening. And it led into annual special “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose” at a dominant 7.4/12 at 10 p.m.
On CBS, “How I Met Your Mother,” which concludes on March 31, finished third in the 8 p.m. half-hour with a 5.4/ 9. Comparably, that will be more than enough to resonate demographically opposite the heavy non-scripted competition on ABC and NBC. Next was an encore of “2 Broke Girls” at a 3.9/ 6 at 8:30 p.m. (#4), followed by an original “Mike & Molly” (#3: 5.2/ 8), a repeat of “Mom” (#3: 4.1/ 6) and drama entry “Intelligence” (#3: 4.4/ 7), which is a stronger option than recent entry “Hostages” but still not enough to warrant a second season. Note the CBS: The potential new spin-off of “CSI” could be a good fit Monday at 10 p.m.
Elsewhere, “Bones” on Fox (#3: 4.4/ 7) led into a 3.6/ 5 in the overnights (#4), for just-renewed “The Following,” which dropped by 32 percent from the 5.3/ 8 on the year-ago evening. And The CW barely registered with its low-rated combination of recent entry “Star-Crossed” (#5: 0.8/ 1) and sophomore “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.7/ 1). Tick, tock…that cancellation clock is ticking!

Appears Berman really wants that CSI spinoff to happen.
ReplyDeleteBelieve has a slightly lower # than The Blacklist did last week (6.8 to 7) Wait til demos come out... (I am guessing 2.7ish)
ReplyDeleteWeird scheduling for CBS. An original HIMYM, followed by a repeat of 2BG, then an original M&M, followed by a repeat of Mom and lastly an original Intelligence.
ReplyDeleteso higher then last weeks Blacklist?
ReplyDeleteI really hope the HH rating for Bones ends up being at least 2.0 in demos.
ReplyDeleteNot weird at all, really. HIMYM is getting straight episodes and so is Intelligence. But the other shows end in May.
ReplyDeleteHIMYM looks down.
ReplyDeletewell HH numbers are lower than last week TB. So maybe less total viewers but the demo can go anyway.
ReplyDeleteit could also be more older skewing. One cant really compare it to TB ratings.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing low 3s. I hope the series finale will get a 4.0+
ReplyDeleteThe Following really didn't profit even with Bones as lead in, at least according to HH.
ReplyDeleteI am being optimistic and hoping for 5.0+.
ReplyDeleteYay for Believe and i still think Bones should have stayed put on Friday night.
ReplyDeleteHappy for Believe
ReplyDeleteGlad Believe had a decant start.
ReplyDeleteSundays at 9 is going to a busy night, looks like Believe got the same ratings than last week "The Blacklist" wiith that strong lead in
ReplyDeletei would assume it is younger skewing than blacklist, procedurals are usually older skewing
ReplyDeleteDo ratings posted on this site include same day dvr, or just Nielsen's boxes?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThe ones in this table are just the early overnights
See the FAQ
http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/10/renewals-and-cancellations-decisions.html
2.7 for Believe. Not too shabby.
ReplyDelete1.5 for Following ... i must say i really don't get the early renewal for it.
ReplyDeleteKevin Bacon?
ReplyDeleteThanks! Answered a lot of my questions!
ReplyDeleteIt's a 15-episode series so it's a different commitment. However, the fact that "ancient" Bones, which bounced (back) to another timeslot and drew higher demos says a lot. (Especially when you factor in the much lower HUT at 8 p.m. now that DST started.)
ReplyDeleteBelieve premiered well! Nice!
ReplyDeleteCould that 2.7 for Believe land it on a better night? Sundays might be rough.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling HIMYM would hit season low with those HH numbers. Guess the repeats of the rest of the comedies had an effect
ReplyDeleteWell Bones is a procedural at heart which is easier to draw in viewers as opposed to serialized show like the Following
ReplyDeleteThere isn't any other slot available.
ReplyDeleteNBC should keep Believe on Monday and move Balcklist to sunday it had more exposure behind the voice and should survive
ReplyDeleteNo thanks.
ReplyDeleteThey're only 6 eps left on BatB, why didn't they just run them all sooner instead of jerking around the fans? We know the show is done.

BATB hits a 0.2. Can't say I didn't expect that.
ReplyDeleteGutted that such a cool and interesting show (for the CW) like Star Crossed will be pulled (guessing on those numbers) People need to start watching, its a really cool show, much like Defiance. I think this will be cancelled but you never know, Maybe its time the CW realized that the most they can hope for outside of Arrow and TVD is 1.5million viewers on average.. they keep pulling shows for the same numbers.. I don't think its the shows but the network.
ReplyDeleteNow I know how the Secret Circle fans felt back when they got pulled :(
Because they need to try another show in that slot.
ReplyDeleteI just wished less people watched the bachelor. No offense to fans watching it, I just know it's numbers for a cheap un"scripted" show put scripted fare on the network to shame.
ReplyDeleteThats just ouch for BATB. I just hope they will wrap things up nicely and give fans closure.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how TTP does on monday next week. Doubt that higher than 0.3
My pleasure.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they'll pull SC, but yeah it's definitely not getting renewed.
ReplyDeleteAlso it gives them time to film an ending now that it's certain to be cancelled. Better for the fans that way.
ReplyDeleteOh good, I assumed the last few eps were already shot.
ReplyDeleteThey are shooting 2.19 atm.
ReplyDeleteYeah, series low tying to I believe. (Sits back and awaits the down votes) LOL
ReplyDeleteI don't see that happening this year, but I could see Blacklist moving to a new night next year with NBC using the voice to lead-in for a new series.
ReplyDeleteWhen did it get 0.2 before?
ReplyDeleteYep.
ReplyDeletethat should give them enough time for a decent send-off. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteThe following is now doing worse than it did when almost human was its lead in , and it still got an early pickup and almost human didn't.
ReplyDeleteYou can't see down votes anymore, lol.
ReplyDeleteWops, just re-read the post on TVBTN it was a series low. My mistake!
ReplyDeleteThank God, otherwise I'd probably get like 20+ lol
ReplyDeleteBilled as a "spring finale" you'd think more people would have tuned in.
ReplyDeleteOf course, and that's why every network needs a stable of procedurals to balance serials (e.g., look at ABC's mess of a schedule).
ReplyDeleteJuan Pablo affected everything.
ReplyDeleteSolid number from Believe. Haven't seen it yet but I have high hopes for it. Hopefully it doesn't drop to much last week (No Bachelor may help it since the post finale was pretty big)
ReplyDeleteIts moving to Sundays.
ReplyDeleteNo , they only premiered it their to try and gain an audience to carry over to Sunday. unless something got cancelled and a space became available in the schedule then it will remain on Sunday even then i doubt they would move it because you never no it could do decent on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteAlmost human was a 13 episode series which got better ratings and that didn't grab a early renewal.
ReplyDeleteYea thats what I meant.. I think the 13 episodes is all we are going to get. I wonder how the 100 does.. if it preforms like SC then they are screwed. Like I said they need to stop trying to get TVD numbers on every show and be happy with between 1-2 million.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised at the ratings for BATB. 2.16 was such an amazing episode; best of yet to come! What I don't understand is why people are sentencing the show as a failure when we still don't know the results! Yes, BATB might not have a strong US following, but the international fanbase is fundamentally large. If anything, it is the power of the fans (especially the International beasties) that will gear towards a Season 3. S2 is so much better than S1, and I wish people would give the show more of a chance. Just watching the first three episodes isn't going to hack it. By the sixth episode, in my opinion, is where the Season 1 really starts to pick up.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't support BATB, that's fine, but don't point out that it is a failure. The fact that the decision has not been made about BATB proves that the show has as much a chance as StarCrossed or The 100. The Beasties know there's a chance that BATB might be canceled; there's no need to remind us every week. The fact that the CW / CBS has not made their decision is torture enough. It's utterly painful not knowing whether or not BATB will be salvaged. But, even if the odds might be against us, we're still going to have strong faith no matter what happens.
Will Beauty And The Beast fans stop spamming the comments with hashtags when the show is gone? Is that too much to hope for?
ReplyDeleteI just dont get it why so low....batb was freaking amazing!
ReplyDeleteProbably, however we may be hearing for years about why it should have been renewed. Lord knows The Secret Circle fans are still going on about how wrong it was to cancel it.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the Body of Proof fans either. They still perpetually whine about that one as well. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think when comes down to it, Almost Human is much more expansive to produce and The following has better star power to keep it going despite it's dwindling ratings
ReplyDeleteReally shocked me when it was renewed. Ratings aren't exactly great and I still can't figure out how they can actually prolong the story until, and throughout season 3.
ReplyDeleteit got 0.2,no one needs to point out that it's utter failure. If the fact that the last six episodes burn-off in may-june is not proof of it's inevitable cancellation,i don't know what is.there is a difference between being optimistic and being delusional. As you yourself said, three episodes won't hack it,the fact is that strong faith only helps when a show has good ratings by it's side, otherwise not.Clearly that's not the case here!!
ReplyDeleteTVD, Arrow, The Originals, Supernatural and Reign(except for once) all get more than 1.5 million viewers weekly. CW are quite right to cancel shows doing as poorly as Star Crossed in hopes that they produce another show that can join the list of shows that can pull better numbers.
ReplyDeleteSC will be cancelled but I dont think it will be pulled from the schedule though if I was Mark Pedowitz I would have swapped TTP to 8pm as soon as I saw that SC was DOA.
Secret Circle wasn't pulled it was cancelled.
it T100 fails then the CW will still have 5 renewed shows and could still renew HOD for syndication for Friday with ANTM and Whose Line? That would leave 3 hours on the Fall schedule to fill which is how many shows CW usually premier each year anyway. So no they arent screwed if it fails.
ReplyDeletethey had more than enough time to burn it off but I suspect they needed the time to finish filming the episodes and writing a decent series finale?
ReplyDeleteThey could have cancelled their entire Thursday line up, Wednesday 8pm, Friday 8pm?
ReplyDeleteSorry, but the show will be cancelled. I actually gave the show a chance last summer, watched all of S1 and a few episodes of S2, so I gave it more than it what it was worth and still no.
ReplyDeleteSalary = probably huge
ReplyDeleteAwards hype = none so far
Audience = fading and fading
Still don't know what objective good Kevin Bacon is bringing to the show for a 3rd year renewal. I mean, he's a famous actor (and a very competent one), but really?
And maybe kill the show in the process?
ReplyDeleteWoooow batb went down again 0.2 horrible this show is likely to be cancelled. One thing that can maybe keep it going is if they put back batb on thursday like last season, still dont understand why they moved it for monday #saveBatb :(
ReplyDeleteI watch BatB too, but i hope they announce cancellation soon enough so they would stop spamming (hopefully)
ReplyDeleteThis time year with the new pilots in the works and shows all coming to that cancellation/ renewal point many fandoms are dealing with that danger. BATB is not the only one show with cancellation comments.
ReplyDeleteIf you really need to avoid seeing comments about cancellation I suggest you avoid ratings posts as well as renewal/ cancellation posts and pilot watch posts.
Does someone happen to know why CBS didn't air 2 Broke Girls and Mom?
ReplyDeleteI'm confused they aired HIMYM and Mike and Molly but not the 2 other comedies... :(
Ha! XD
ReplyDeleteI love the term "Schedule Spackle" so much!
I'm still bitter at The Following's early renewal after the acrobatic feat Almost Human had to pull for three months. I have nothing against The Following, I just have no interest in it, so my issue is with FOX. They have been off their game lately and it is just cringe worthy and their scheduling is still in shambles (See, RAKE). Examples would be renewing Glee without seeing how fans would appreciate the series after the recent tragedies as well as the loss of other characters, and prior to this- they renewed MasterChef Junior BEFORE a second season even aired!
ReplyDeleteSo by this point I can't believe the amount of disrespect Almost Human was shown. The episode shuffling, hiatuses, and no reruns during the Olympics, it is just frustrating. No other show currently broadcasted has gone through this. Even Killer Women was given the benefit of airing all of its episodes despite the low ratings.
And I still don't understand how Almost Human is expensive, because I would assume Kevin Bacon alone cost more than one episode of Almost Human.
Nice Believe! Now hopefully it doesn't lose too many viewers in the upcoming few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed season one, haven't been able to get through episodes in season two. It became a mess. That said, each to their own and I feel for the fans. I've got a couple bubble shows I'm praying will pull a renewal. It's frustrating to see a favorite show get cancelled.
ReplyDeleteYeah Keith Urban is famous judge on AI. Lol I think you mean Karl Urban
ReplyDeleteThose 2 are all that really matters, but Walking Dead is the biggest show on tv, and Res got 50% more in the demo than Believe did, so it is going to be really tough competition.
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments as well. With the way AH has been treated, I've no doubt that Fox have reached long and deep for reasons to cancel it rather than renew it. It's hard not to look to The Following for comparison as we all know the ridiculous push it's gotten. The least Fox could've done was to give AH some dignity and let it air the way it's supposed to be. But we really don't know what happens behind closed doors. I wish we did.
ReplyDeleteJoe Adalian believes AH has a case for renewal, but is getting no love from Fox. I agree with that idea. Five Fox execs got promotions after the renewal announcements, and two brought in the renewed shows, save for Bones. One of the execs who got kicked upstairs was in charge of the dramas and was responsible for bringing in Sleepy Hollow and The Following to Fox. An exec who didn't have a hand in bringing a show to the network could not care any less about what happens to that show. Why reach in for AH when you have The Following, right? On the subject of cost, I think AH is a show that can pinch pennies if need be. We're not exactly looking at Terra Nova-level budget here...oh, apparently Kevin Reilly never liked that show in the first place, which accelerated its demise. As far as I'm concerned, AH is more a victim of network politics now than a victim of packed schedules.
If all is lost, I hope that Joel Wyman continues AH in some form or another. There's a big setup there that needs a payoff and the possibilities are exciting as they are enormous.
We already know who owns the most nielsen boxes in the USA! Yes those people that watch reality $%^^& and less scripted shows!
ReplyDeleteI always knew you were a beastie in disguise lol but yes they are filming episode 2.19 :)
ReplyDelete
