The Originals - Julie Plec Interview

5 Feb 2014

Thanks to Lily for the heads up.

Warning: Do not continue reading the following article unless you've watched The Originals' Feb. 4 episode, "Crescent City." Spoilers ahead!

And yet another witch bites the dust!

After the tragic death of Davina (Danielle Campbell), The Originals killed another New Orleans witch on Tuesday night's episode: Sophie (Daniella Pineda), who was killed by the niece, Monique, she worked so hard to resurrect all season long on the CW drama. Rough twist, girl!

But another witch also got our attention during "Crescent City": Celeste (Shannon Kane), who finally revealed herself to Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and proved just how powerful she, Bastianna (Shannon Eubanks) and Genevieve (Elyse Levesque) are, kidnapping Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) by episode's end after Elijah chose to save Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) instead of his siblings.

A lot went down in this episode, so we got scoop from executive producer Julie Plec on what's ahead for the Original siblings after they messed with the wrong witches and how Jackson (Nathan Parsons), Hayley's new werewolf love interest, will factor into her relationship with Elijah...

Death Sticks: "It seems so yes," Plec confirmed of Sophie's death being a permanent one. "I think that in this particular case, the witches having taken their vengeance against a non-believer, I don't think there's much of a hope for her to recover, given that more often than not, you need witch intervention to have a second chance at life," she explained. "So I think that this may be the end of Miss Sophie."

Original Woes: Plec teases that the next episode is "actually really crazy" as they do something theshow has never done before.

"We go outside of the Quarter and we put Rebekah and Klaus into a trap situation in a creepy, horrible, messed up sanitarium from back in the day, and Genevieve, just basically working between the two of them, enacts her revenge," she says. "We'll learn why Genevieve's revenge is so specifically targeted towards Rebekah and what exactly she's going to do to make Rebekah suffer as much as possible."
And yes, there will be consequences for Elijah after he decided to save Hayley over his brother and sister. "There's a guilt attached to that, there's a shame attached to that," Plec says. "There's a logic attached to it, of course—when in doubt, save the baby. But it definitely drives him very hard to rescue his siblings in the next episode and to try and pull the family back together, even as it's under assault."

  1. Oh no, not another forced love triangle, I've had enough of them for life with TVD, I'm sick of love triangles!
Excited for Elijah driven "very hard to rescue his siblings" though, he needs some action (like killing Agnes)! :D

  2. Sophie's death makes you remember that nobody is safe!

  3. Why is Julie so obsessed with love triangles? We have enough of those on TVD, we don't need any more ever. I hate Hayley/Elijah was a passion (he was into her after knowing her for all of 5 seconds - it was like as soon as he found out his brother had knocked her up he wanted her) - it's just so forced and lacks any sense. Hayley should have zero love interests until that baby is gone.

  4. I think Elijah just wants something his brother has. Klaus is no better. He seems to be more interested in Cami than ever since he saw her feed herself to Marcel. Those two brothers want women they can't have or shouldn't want. It's probably a Freudian thing that has to do with their mother.

  5. I think Davina is definitely coming back. It's Sophie we can officially say goodbye to.

  6. I despise triangles with every essence of my being, and I was hoping Jackson would have turned out to be her brother and not her betrothed (because really those were the only two options).
However seeing Elijah get jealous and have a little competition in getting Hayley's attention might be interesting. Not that he's taking her for granted, but he is keeping his distance (with good reason and good intentions mind you) and in doing so he seems to let her down a lot.
So as long as the whole Jackson thing is more one sided on his part I think it might help put things into perspective for Elijah, and it could give him motivation to do something... at the very least let her know upfront how he feels...

But it's Julie Plec so I doubt that's how it's going to go down...

  7. I'm not sure if anything will change after the next episode, but Elijah is the type who might distance himself from Hayley even more after hearing that she's supposed to be married to another werewolf. Jackson insinuated that he doesn't want the baby, which will be a problem for Hayley. So, we might be looking at this situation in the near future: Jackson wants Hayley, Hayley wants Elijah, Elijah wants to give Jackson and Hayley a chance to be together because he's all noble. I can't see this turning into a love triangle with Elijah looking for an excuse to prove his loyalty to his family.

  8. I don't entirely disagree with you. Mostly I can see him acknowledging in theory that maybe Hayley and Jackson should be together because it is "the right thing", but I don't think he'll follow though in practice. He's fallen way to hard for her.
