-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS won this first night of the summer TV season in the overnights, but three of the five networks (CBS, ABC and Fox) were down by double-digit percentages year-to-year. The Eye net was ignited, of course, by “The Big Bang Theory,” which led the night with a 6.0 rating/11 share for an encore at 8 p.m. And that led into repeats of “Two and a Half Men” (#1: 5.1/ 9), “Person of Interest” (#1: 4.7/ 8) and “Elementary” (#2: 3.5/ 6) from 8:30-11 p.m. Unfortunately, you had better get used to the word repeat, which you will be seeing continuously in this section for the next four months.

There were two series premieres last night: sitcom “Save Me” on NBC and reality hour “Does Someone Have to Go?” on Fox, and both were DOA. Two episodes of “Save Me” with Anne Heche averaged a mere 2.8/ 5 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., with a 2.9/ 5 at 8 p.m. (#3t) and a 2.6/ 5 at 8:30 p.m. (#4). “Does Someone Have to Go?” on Fox, meanwhile, might have to go with a distant third-place 2.3/ 4 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, the retention out of lead-in “Hell’s Kitchen” (#2: 4.0/ 7 at 8 p.m.) was only 57 percent.

If anyone wants to see Anne Heche, how about a network picking up the off-network rights for 2006-08 cult favorite “Men in Trees”?

Leading out of the double dose of “Save Me” on NBC were repeats of “The Office” (#4: 1.8/ 3) and “Parks and Recreation” (#4: 1.6/ 3) from 9-10 p.m., followed by recent drama entry “Hannibal” at a last-place 2.2/ 4 in the overnights at 10 p.m. At press time, NBC has still not made a decision on the future…if there is one…of graphic “Hannibal.”

Over at ABC, which was in all originals, tired “Wipeout” (#3: 2.8/ 5 at 8 p.m.) led into the time period premiere of Canadian drama “Motive” at a respectable 4.5/ 8 (#2) at 9 p.m., which built from “Wipeout” by a hefty 61 percent. Compared to its Monday preview (4.9/ 8 on May 20 at 9 p.m.), this was a loss of only eight percent. And “Motive” did not have the support from “Dancing With the Stars” last night.

“Motive” led into the season-premiere of Canadian drama “Rookie Blue,” which won the 10 p.m. hour with a 4.3/ 7 in the overnights. Comparably, this was right on par with its year-ago season-premiere.

Last was The CW with its encore combination of “The Vampire Diaries” and “Beauty and the Beast,” which each scored a 0.6/ 1.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) we post the TV Ratings for the previous night.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below)
