As I had predicted last week, the ratings for Monday were pretty interesting reading. There was stiff competition from all four major networks, especially with the return of NBC duo The Voice and Revolution. So how did things pan out in the end??

Lets start at 8pm with ABC's Dancing With The Stars. It had a very high rating premiere last week, scoring a 3.2 rating and 17.06 million viewers. However this week, perhaps thanks to the return of The Voice on NBC, the tide turned, big time, with this week's Dancing With The Stars dropping 0.8 of a ratings point, on its way down to a 2.4 rating, and 14.47 million viewers, - nearly 2.6 million viewers less than last week. The Voice had a very good start however, scoring a 4.8 rating and 13.64 million viewers, a bit better than the premiere in September last year. I'll talk about the 10pm shows that Dancing With The Stars and The Voice led in, a little later on

8pm also saw FOX's Bones air to a 1.9 rating and 6.96 million viewers. Both the rating and audience equal the season lows in their categories, with a 1.9 rating and 6.96 million viewers also recorded back on 3 December last year. Over on CBS, How I Met Your Mother took the first half hour and earned a 2.7 rating and 6.99 million viewers, slightly down on last week's effort of a 3.0 rating and 7.44 million viewers. The 8:30 - 9pm timeslot was filled by Rules of Engagement, which scored a 2.2 rating and 6.30 million viewers, which is also down on last week's effort of a 2.3 rating and 6.78 million viewers.

At 9pm, Dancing With The Stars and The Voice continued battling on ABC and NBC respectively, while The Following and the half hour comedy duo of 2 Broke Girls and Mike & Molly went head to head on FOX and CBS respectively. Interestingly, both CBS shows were comfortably up on last week, with 2 Broke Girls earning a 3.0 rating and 8.76 million viewers, compared to last week's 2.8 rating and 8.56 million viewers, and Mike & Molly up by the same 0.2 ratings margin to a 2.6 rating, and 8.99 million viewers, compared to last week's 2.4 rating and 8.38 million viewers

The Following did feel the pinch though, with this week's episode earning a 2.3 rating and 6.66 million viewers, compared to last week's 2.5 rating and 7.34 million viewers. 666 is a number that doesn't hold a great reputation, which may be the numbers acknowledging the new series low rating and audience. Joe Carroll may as well be Satan! Bear in mind that The Following has already been renewed, but a drop into the mid to high 1's in ratings wouldn't look that great for FOX, should things continue dropping

To the highly anticipated 10pm timeslot now, beginning with Hawaii Five-0. When up against Revolution in September through to December last year, the ratings weren't flash at all, but so far this year things have looked much more positive. What's more, things might just stay that way as well, with this week's episode earning a 2.1 rating and 8.61 million viewers. Last week's episode shared the same rating, with a slightly higher audience of 8.99 million.

ABC's Castle, following Dancing With The Stars, dropped slightly on last week's series high audience, earning a 2.1 rating and 10.57 million viewers, compared to last week's 2.2 rating and 11.26 million viewers. The large drop Dancing With The Stars experienced might have had a role in Castle's drop, which will make next week's results for both shows interesting reading. Castle fans are all very much looking forward to next week's centenary episode, and I'm picking a 2.2 rating and 10.9 million viewers for it next week.

So how did Revolution fare on its return after 17 long weeks?? Well, it was a bit of a flop to be honest, with this week's episode earning a 2.6 rating and 7.03 million viewers. The rating equals the series low to date, which is shared by two other episodes, and the audience is just 10,000 above the current series low of 7.02 million viewers. NBC did a substantial amount of promotion for Revolution's return, and while they won't pull the plug on it anytime soon, (get it ;-) they were probably hoping for more, especially on the back of a strong performing The Voice.

Lastly, I ran a poll for you readers to have a crack at guessing Revolution's rating and audience, and the results were generally too optimistic. Just over 17% guessed the correct 2.6-2.7 rating - the second most popular option overall with nearly 18% choosing 2.3 or less as their guess. For the audience, 23% of people, and by far the majority, incorrectly picked the 8-8.5 million category, while 10.5% of voters guessed the correct 7-7.5 million audience category, the fourth most popular category overall. With this week's episode being viewed by 7.03 million viewers, the 13.8% of voters who guessed less than 7 million were unlucky, but only just. See the results of the poll, along with the original post, here

How did your shows do?? Were you surprised by the results of the ratings this week?? Have your say in the comments below
