The role of Harry Osborn had previously been played by Franco in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" movies. When Marc Webb announced he was looking for a new actor to portray the character, DeHaan, Brady Corbet, Alden Ehrenreich, Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth and Boyd Holbrook were all considered for the role.
DeHaan will be joining Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and Jamie Foxx as Electro in the film. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due to release on May 2, 2014.
DeHaan is best known for his work in Chronicle which was released in February earlier this year.
