-Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy Thursday overnight victory for CBS, as usual, with its combination of The Big Bang Theory (11.2 rating/18 share), Two and a Half Men (8.8/14), Person of Interest (9.4/15) and recent entry Elementary (7.2/12). The Eye net finished first in each of the six half-hours, The Big Bang Theory was the top-rated show of the evening, and Big Bang, Two and a Half Men and Person of Interest were all up from the year-ago time period. Elementary, in contrast, dipped by eight percent from former time period occupant The Mentalist (7.8/13 on 11/17/11), and is not necessarily the hit CBS is hoping for.

Veteran Grey’s Anatomy on ABC remains the alphabet net’s top-rated Thursday entry, of course, with a respectable 6.6/10 from 9-10 p.m. and growth of 69 percent from the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in Last Resort (#3: 3.9/ 6). On the fence drama Last Resort scored a 4.1/ 7 overall from 8-9 p.m., which was 34 percent below a special edition of 20/20 on the year-ago evening (6.2/10). At this point, it is safe to say there is no future for Last Resort.

At 10 p.m. on ABC, sophomore Scandal finished second with a typical 4.7/ 8 in the overnights. Comparably, the retention for Scandal out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Grey’s Anatomy (both Shonda Rhimes dramas) was 71 percent.

On Fox, respectable The X Factor at 8 p.m. (#2: 5.5/ 9) led into a third-place 3.8/ 6 for tired Glee at 9 p.m., which dipped by 37 percent from the 8:30 p.m. portion of The X Factor (6.0/ 9). Moving from Tuesday to Thursday has not been beneficial. Like any high school based series historically (think Room 222 and The White Shadow, in particular) the obstacle Glee faces is the aging “kids.” It might be time for the series to officially graduate this spring.

Elsewhere, NBC remained out of the competitive loop with its line-up of 30 Rock (#4: 2.6/ 4), Up All Night (#4: 2.4/ 4), which is unlikely to benefit after the planned re-tooling, The Office (#4: 3.0/ 5), Parks and Recreation (#4: 2.4/ 4) and Rock Center With Brian Williams (#3: 3.0/ 5). And The CW had nothing unusual to report with demo-friendly The Vampire Diaries (#5: 2.1/ 3) and recent entry Beauty and the Beast (#5: 1.3/ 2), which recently received a full season episode order despite the lack of interest.

  3. GO POI! CBS gave the wrong show the post-bowl slot. POI is the network's rising star. Let's hope they are smart enough to cultivate this show and grow it into a monster of NCIS proportions.

  4. Keep putting new shows against The Big Bang Theory,ABC,it's working very well for you.
I really want Last Resort to have at least one full season.Come on... : (

  6. My prognosis: Up All Night will get canceled, and Parks and Rec get a 6th season. It will join Go On and The New Normal next year on a (hopefully) successful comedy night.

  7. I love TBBT, but I gotta think its ratings keep going up this season because people have nothing else to watch.

  12. Don't get me wrong,I like TBBT as well and I'm glad it's doing so good.
As far as ratings go it is a powerhouse and that's what I think placing a new show against it is a huge mistake.Even if they cancel Last Resort and put something else there, odds are that it's gonna fail as well.
And it's a terrible shame because Last Resort really is a great show with great potential.

  13. Woah. After 5 years, TBBT is getting a great boost. I don't watch it regularly but it is a really good sitcom.

  15. Wow TBBH just keeps getting higher and higher!
I actually never thought 2 and a half men would be doing this good, specially after the whole charile sheen thing
Grey's still doing pretty great! I'm proud of them :D

  16. I do disagree that the slot is like "cursed" or something. When the Voice results were on it pulled usual results show-type numbers, so I feel like blaming the time slot is a misstep, people are out there who want to watch TV on Thursday's at 8: there aren't really any cable programs on then, viewers show up later to watch stuff at 9, so I think LR pulling TVD/30 Rock numbers is because demo people don't like LR, and I think TBBT is going up because people who jumped ship on LR are going over the TBBT. But that's just my read on the trend.

  17. I hate that great shows like Last Resort are faltering in the ratings and the best comedies either have poor ratings (Parks & Rec) or have poor ratings and stepped on by the network (Community).

    At least POI did well.

  18. Is this ever updated to reflect the final numbers? For example, TBBT (5.7), The Vampire Diaries (1.3), Grey's Anatomy (3.2) and The Office (2.1) were all adjusted up in the 18-49 demo. While Scandal (2.0) and Last Resort (1.2) both dropped. Just wondering.
