-Rating Results:
The 54th Annual Grammy Awards on CBS, as expected, rose to a record performance with a massive 25.8 rating/38 share in the overnights from 8-11 p.m., according to Nielsen. Comparably, The Grammys built from the year-ago evening (17.9/27 on 2/13/11) by a whopping 44 percent. And last year’s telecast translated into 26.67 million viewers, with a 10.0 rating/27 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day rating results. Do the math, and last night’s telecast could hover in the 37-38 million viewer range.

Here is the half-hour breakdown:

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards (CBS)
8:00 p.m.: 25.6/37
8:30 p.m.: 25.9/37
9:00 p.m.: 25.9/37
9:30 p.m.: 26.3/37
10:00 p.m.: 26.1/39
10:30 p.m.: 25.1/40

Comparably, dominant CBS more than doubled the three competing networks combined last night. For our tribute to Whitney Houston, click on the following: http://www.tvmediainsights.com/2012/02/whitney-huston-dead-at-the-age-of-48/

Earlier in the evening on CBS was granddaddy 60 Minutes at a first-place 10.4/17 in the overnights at 7 p.m.

NOTE: The fast affiliate results for The GRammy Awards will be posted later this morning.

Elsewhere, the results were slim opposite The Grammy Awards. Second-place ABC opened with veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos (#3: 4.4/ 7 at 7 p.m.), followed by Once Upon a Time (#2: 5.5/ 8), soon-to-conclude Desperate Housewives (#2: 4.8/ 7), which dipped to a series low, and canceled Pan Am (#3: 2.3/ 3) from 8-11 p.m. Pan Am concludes next Sunday.

An encore telecast of NBC’s Dateline (themed Dateline Classic) got some mileage in the 7 p.m. hour, with a second-place 6.4/10 in the overnights. But a second hour dipped to a 3.7/ 5 at 8 p.m. (#3), leading into two-hours of Fear Factor at a mere (and series low) 2.3/ 4 from 9-11 p.m.

Last-place Fox was well below-average with its 7-10 p.m. line-up of a repeat of Bob’s Burgers (#4: 1.3/ 2), The Cleveland Show (#4: 1.8/ 3), The Simpsons (#4: 2.8/ 4), Napoleon Dynamite (#4: 2.1/ 3), Family Guy (#3: 3.1/ 4) and American Dad (#3: 2.3/ 3). Each of the animated Fox sitcoms, including The Simpsons, are likely series lows.
