Here are the rest of my recaps Raising Hope Season 1.

Episode 1.20 - Everybody Flirts... Sometimes

"Everybody knows the lawn and pool business isn't just about the lawn and pools."

Jimmy catches Burt flirting with a client. Shirtless. Pound cake. Burt claims that it's his way of getting more money for the family. Perfectly harmless. "Who are you? Burt Bigalo, yard gigolo?"

Virginia is upset by this until she learns that everybody flirts to get stuff. So she does first to a barista then to a mailman. It backfires on her when the barista falls for.

Jimmy also finds out flirting can be used to get out of undesirable jobs at the grocery store. That's when he starts brown nosing his boss Barney. Snuggies. Passion fruit ice tea. Movie time. It was going well until Sabrina outdoes him to get back on Barney's good graces.

Highlights:
Montage of Burt flirting with customers. (A snake in a tree?)
Virginia's reaction to Garry covered in rose petals.
Jimmy imitating Burt's lip curl.
Thinking he is so good, Burt kisses his biceps.
Burt passing the flirting hat to Jimmy.
Maw Maw giving Hope a stole.
Burt wearing a stovepipe hat.

Episode 1.21 - Baby Monitor

Burt became obsessed with the neighbours (Ethan Suplee and Jaime Pressly from My Name is Earl) when their baby monitor picked up a signal coming from their puppy monitor. He immediately relates to the husband's predicament and invites them over for dinner to have Virginia show the wife how to be cool, but Donna the wife found out about the 'wife school' and got quite upset. In the end, Burt was just overjoyed that they succeeded in turning their sad home happy like theirs at the risk of Virginia being a called a judgmental busybody snoop. By making her hate Virginia, they were able to be a nicer wife to her husband.
"We are not better than a lot of people, but we are better than those people."

Meanwhile, Jimmy, Sabrina and Frank each make a commercial for Howdy's Supermarket to see which one Barney will submit to head office for a spot on TV. While it was OK with Jimmy to use the boss in his video and spoke in his Golem voice, he was upset at Sabrina for using Hope in her 1960's theme video. "Make your own baby." Not liking how the competition was ripping his team apart, Barney did not using any of the videos to preserve team unity.

Highlights:
Virginisms: Why are you infusiating yourself into other peoples' lives?
Orange you glad our prices are... bananas?
Maw Maw's homemade facelift: tape all over her face.
Old people magazine. Is that an old copy of People Magazine or magazine for old people?
Hope's 'uh oh face' when Burt spilled wine.
Hope's special effect lips in Sabrina's video.
Having babies is bad for the figure. "Look at how much tape it took to keep my ass off the ground."

Episode 1.22 - Don't Vote For This Episode

On the night they celebrate Maw Maw and his birthday, Jimmy regales Hope with his birthdays from previous years, particularly one from five years ago. Back when Maw Maw still had her faculties and Jimmy was in a goth phase, calling himself Drakkar Noir. Maw Maw threw them out of the house for leeching off of her for all those years.

"You're one wet washcloth from a roof over a floor over your head."

Refusing to take off the make up / identity to move into the basement of Virginia's boss, Drakkar Noir makes a home at Howdy's Supermarket. From there, we meet everyone who eventually become Jimmy's friends. A fat Barney, best stock clerks in the store Frank and Shelley, Sabrina with braces, and even Hope's mom at the onset of her killing spree. Ironically, Sabrina fell in love with the dark, brooding young man before he finally gone back to being just plain Jimmy.

Eventually, Virginia decided to just move back in to take care of Maw Maw.

Highlights:
"Take me away, dark prince."
Burt's spitting duel with the alpaca.
"We've got a gypsy!"
Maw Maw must have old timers disease.
Stocky Balboa
Duane the Stock Johnson
How Shelley got her dead tooth
Hungry Hungry Hippo
Birthday party scenes with Hope laughing adorably.
Did anyone catch if the twins who played baby Hope appear in the end credit picture? My tape cut to another show at that moment.

Next season will be a whole new chapter in their lives.
