Charlie meets his mathematical equivalent when LOTTERY AGENT JANE assists in the investigation into a complex scam that involves thefts of unsold lottery tickets
[LOTTERY AGENT JANE] Early to mid 30s, eccentric and engaged, she is a "lottery cop," an expert mathematician, employed by the California State Lottery to spot frauds. A fast talking genius who's (maybe) just as bright as Charlie Eppes, excellent at calculating probabilities, she works closely with Charlie in trying to figure out the mathematical scam that inspired a series of armed robberies of unscratched lottery tickets. Jane winds up accused of having planned the crimes herself -- and a dubious (and gallant) Charlie, possibly spotting his opposite number in romance as well as in calculations, double-checks everyone else's work and comes up with a different bottom line -- and a different suspect...GUEST STAR (10) PLEASE SUBMIT ALL ETHNICITIES
[BOYD] 40-52, an affable man in a business suit, with a business-casual attitude, Boyd is the security supervisor for the California Lottery Commission, and he's an expert on the lottery and all its works. The boss of "lottery cop" Jane, Boyd has no math expertise, and appears to be a little out of his depth when Jane and Charlie suss out the real scheme that underpins the thefts of unscratched lottery tickets. In fact, Boyd is the inside man, and he plants evidence that implicates Jane Hackett as the mastermind behind the crimes -- and it all works swell until mastermind Charlie Eppes steps in, determined to find the real criminals...GUEST STAR (6) PLEASE SUBMIT ALL ETHNICITIES
[SCOTT / ROBBER TWO] 40-45 years old, a motivational speaker type, Scott used to be a truck salesman -- but he won $15 million in the lottery, blew it all, and now hosts a support group for fellow lottery winners who need help managing their nouveaux riches. Apparently a family man who's earnestly trying to help others, Scott in fact is badly in debt and needs a fresh influx of cash. He's been one of the four robbers who have been hitting local convenience stores and stealing unscratched lottery tickets at gunpoint. When his son Zack is arrested, a suddenly desperate Scott wastes no time in offering the FBI anything they want if they'll drop the charges against his boy...GUEST STAR (14)
[ZACK] 16 years old, Zack is a smart kid with a smart mouth; he thinks he's funny but too many of his jokes land flat. The son of a widower, Zack doesn't have a woman in the house to adjust his attitude, and he's got a bracing contempt for his father and anyone else who has ever bought a lottery ticket. Having boosted the stash of winning scratchers his dad stole at gunpoint, Zack tries to cash one in, and when he's arrested, he makes it clear that this is an intervention, intended to stop his father's foolhardy criminal career in its tracks...GUEST STAR (15)
[SARA] 38 years old, in a business suit and carrying a briefcase, Sara is a financial advisor who specializes in working with lottery winners to protect their finances from predators and from their own folly. Bright, a motivated businesswoman, Sara tells Liz a few things about the late John (one of her clients), but refuses to talk further without a subpoena. Later, Sara is fingered by Boyd as the mathematical mastermind behind the scheme to track down a winning ticket, and she's busted in the act...GUEST STAR (17)
