I think Better Off Ted is the best when there is one focused storyline instead of an B or C plot, like episode 12, Jabberwocky. This episode had a lot going on, perhaps too much, but it was still funny though the story wasn't as coherent.
Verdian Dynamics has a new facial recognition software that will take away any semblance of privacy. Ted tests it on Veronica and finds a shocking picture of her as a magician;s assistant. Apparently twice a month, she has been going to be the magician who is also her lover to help him with his act, but she decides to choose one life over the other and it must be her corporate one. Now she has no release and starts slapping everyone. It works except for the fact that slapping people isn't good. When the magician, Mordor, comes into town, Ted talks to him, and then convinces Veronica is be his assistant where she performs nicely. It was weird how Veronica said she loved Mordor after never really expressing any emotion of than a few choice episodes.
There is another storyline of Phil testing the software on himself. He finds pictures of some guy that looks like him with a bunch of women around him. Phil thinks that confidence is the only difference between them, so Phil goes to the gym to get a girl's number. Her boyfriends whoops him, but Phil concludes that he only got hurt because her boyfriend perceived him as a threat.
Linda sets Ted up with her friend Rebecca. There is a scene later where Linda and Rebbecca are talking and Linda shows Rebecca a bunch of pictures of Ted using the search engine. Rebecca thinks Linda is obsessed with Ted, and Linda admits that if Ted was off the table, she'd be less interested. The episode ends with Linda breaking up with her boyfriend Don. Ted comes over with flowers and it seems like he wants to do something with Linda, but then tells her that he should stop waiting on the sidelines and start something with Rebecca.
There are some nice ongoing jokes with Veronica slapping people, and putting a dove in her thong as part of the act. The facial recognition was beyond creepy since not only did it show the ability to find photos of anyone anywhere, it also shows that people were getting their pictures taken anywhere. Veronica as the magician's assistant humanized her a little bit, and we learned that far, far away from the office, she can be a completely different person, allowing her to be a bitch in the office.
Score: 9.2/10
